So, I inoculated a thing...

Decided to have some fun and made up four tyvek/silicone lids, two each of single injection point and four point.

Each set of two lids (one of each type) is over two half pint jars of either: Coffee grounds (used), mixed with mango, orange, and banana peels, with a bit of old vaped weed:
OR 50% the above to 50% vermiculite:

I know these are not ideal or recommended things to fill jars with, but I'm just doing this for fun so why not?

Well, the one jar is still colonizing nicely, but nothing at all in any of the other 7 jars...

Any ideas why nothing apart from the one jar has germinated?

Mostly coffee grounds, the first set of jars was brown rice flour and verm though, and only one of those germinated.

Nothing from the other jars, but this one is finally almost just not quite ready to pop out:

Well, because I am a glutton for punishment, instead of birthing that cake I mixed it up with the others (just the other 3 BRF jars, not the coffee) which did not colonize (minus their casing layers) and stuck it all in a big container.
All done in SAB after bleach misting and waiting, alcohol sanitation of everything before and after putting into the SAB

I'm not in a rush, so I figured why not have some fun and maybe get some more out of that (very nicely colonized) cake. It was a really interesting experience taking it out of the jar and feeling how dense it was, took a surprising amount of strength to tear apart, and the smell was... It just kind of smelled like, life? That sounds really cheesy but it was all I could think of at the time.
I also just started my first agar minirounds with drops from a Pink Buffalo syringe. Hopefully those start growing soon.

Man, you are doing an awful lot of experimenting for your first grow. I'd recommend following a tek exactly as it is written. Then you can get to know the mushrooms and their growing process better. No use in experimenting if you don't know what you are doing. ie. mixing a good cake with ones that were most likely contaminated or trying to grow mushrooms with fruit instead of grain. Sounds like you are just having fun but if you ever want to get serious, then follow directions and observe for a while and you can do experiments based on your observations. I am also on my first grow. Someone on here told me to just follow the damn tek for your first grow and here is what happens when you just follow the tek.
From montub #1

First flush

Second flush

jars just shaken so they will be ready to spawn in 3-5 days and be ready to spawn tub #1 again.

Tub #1, probably will be a tiny flush but the jars will be ready soon.

Tub #2, spawned 8 days ago.

Tray from sgfc spawned 8 days ago.
I have mushrooms at all stages mostly because I've followed the tek, but secondary I read and calculated the times in each stage to pretty much have a flush every week. My point is that you can fuck around and experiment or you can grow mushrooms. The information to do it is here. When someone tells you to do something on here, do it, don't try and be creative and cool..

You're right, and that was the plan with the PF jars until I decided to do that for reasons still beyond my own comprehension. Too much free time lately.
Hopefully some of the PB spores I put on agar a few days ago take off so I can start fresh and really do it right (Agar to grain to mono).
edit: Since doing that transfer/combination I'm reasonably sure there was Bacillus growing in the colonized jar, from the fermenting apple smell.

That... or V-Tek bottle grow... Haven't decided.
Also read through the sponsor forum and it seems the viability of my syringes might not be an isolated incident.

Sorry, I was editing my post when you responded. Your best bet would have been to do the v-tek if you don't have a sgfc. Shredded it with a cheese grater and mixed with a substrate in a tray if you do have a sgfc. I'm not really familiar with the v-tek but you could have done something similar to a tray inside a bottle I guess.

I did make an SGFC, it currently has my slab of oyster mycellium in it haha.
e: I am pretty sure the yield from a single small tub would be more than enough shrooms to last me a while haha, I'm not looking to have a bunch around.

You could have birthed the cake and put it in with the oyster. At least you would have made an attempt at that stage and got some experience.

Right, that's what my plan was, I just had a goofy whim and went with it when I shouldn't have. Them's the breaks.
