I haven't disposed of the bottles yet because I know it is one of the "trigger warnings" of a meth operation. I could always dispose of the lye in a public trash can, but it feels shady.
Dump the bark solution down the drain. Use lots of water to keep it from clogging with bark powder. Lye is a drain cleaner, so no problems there. Wash the bottles out and just throw them away.

I am in need of another bottle of lye, and I want to know what you think is a "reasonable" amount of lye for a person to use in a year if they have clogged pipes. I live in a big town, so anonymity is on my side if I want to buy more, but I can't help but feel that this has to be watched more than just credit card purchases, and employees watching frequent flyers.
Nobody's watching you unless you're there buying lye all the time, like weekly. If you're really scared, mix some with some olive oil and make soap. Then you have an excuse.

We're obviously not located in the same country, but I find it hard to believe that any government would get it's chemophobia going to such an extent that they watch even basic chemicals like lye. This stuff has loads of applications. Hell, I always have a kilo or two around and make my own drain opener fluid (30% solution in water), the heat that is generated during the process also helps with the cleaning/declogging part. Cheaper than buying the drain cleaning solution from the store. The soap idea is also not only a great excuse, but an interesting project to try out too.
