I had never bought one for myself because I heard long ago somewhere that you have to be "initiated" into the realm of Tarot and being gifted a deck is one way that manifests. Who knows, but I do feel it has made it a more conscious experience because it wasn't just a commodity I could've easily acquired.
How/when do you use yours? I used to pull a card a day, to get acquainted with the deck. Now I mostly use it when there's a major life event or some conflict. I should probably consult with it here soon, actually; have had some unsettling things happen in the last couple weeks.

Wanted to bump this thread since the time has come for the tarot to be a daily practice in my life as well as something I am on the long and hard path to gaining wisdom on and from.
I've been doing mostly one card readings asking simple questions or requesting insight on certain topics.
I've been using strictly the Thoth Deck and do not allow other people to touch the cards very often or do their own readings with them. When I do allow people to do readings I simply spread out all the cards in a row and tell the person to ask a question and to draw one card at random.
Another thing is that I do not do readings unless I'm certain it "feels right" I never allow myself to get excited or anxious about doing readings. I only do them when I am calm and clean minded and know that the time is right.
At some point when it seems proper I will possibly get a copy of the raider white deck for myself, but I'm not sure it would serve much of a different purpose than the Thoth deck. I guess it would be good to use with others though since I only really like having the Thoth deck in my hands, not others.
The tarot is teaching me that it works on incredibly subtle energies that it then "maps out" in order to show you the reading. The tarot is like a manual or a gap, everything is in there from the start it's just a matter of what card corresponds to what question at what point in your life.
When you shuffle or touch the cards in any way they are picking up your energy, but they do not transfer energy into you. All the while they are also picking up subtle influence and energy from the environment they are in which provides for the context of the reading.
The same question asked at different points in time often will have a different answer. Yet I notice that sometimes if the questions are asked in a short time frame or before things have had a change to change the same question asked will result in the same reading.
The tarot deck has 78 cards and the number of times the same cards have apeared in readings is pretty intense and interesting. Thoth is most certainly not playing around.
Another very interesting thing is how when I ask it certain questions it gives anwers that directly apply to the situation many times which is completly astounding to me.
For example when I did a reading that asked what me and a friends best corse of action was the card I drew was strength which was in fact our best course of action. Now if the card hard been the devil or death or many of the other cards the card would have nothing to do with a course of action in any way whether it was the best course or not.
Coincidence?
I tried to prove the truth of the tarot (or at least the Thoth tarot) to my father recently and I did several readings very quickly and easily that he straight up said were accurate.
The first of which was the question "where are you at now" and the second was "what do you really think about me. Regaurdless he still claims he doesn't believe in the powers and practical application of tarot but I think he's just too shocked it was so accurate after I reallly shuffled the deck a bunch.
If anyone wants to keep an eye on my tarot log check out my journal!

Penelope_Tree said: I just got my own deck, courtesy of a friend. It was suggested to me, in order to get to know the cards, that I cut one each morning and meditate on it all day. It's day 3 and has proven interesting/insightful thus far.
Can you describe these insights?
Idk if it will be meaningful to anyone else. I pulled Despair (nine of swords) on the third day. The night before had had an argument with my boyfriend. It is a psychological card, indicating the anxiety and fear of the situation are internal rather than external. There are deeper meanings, but on the surface and as a quick reading, it was pretty cool. Some other instances have been drawing 8 of wands (swiftness; fire in the realm of intellect and logic) when starting a new campaign for my job and drawing the hierophant when I was considering what I really wanted from my career.
Basically, just illuminating the bigger picture of my situation at the time. I am confident that as I become more acquainted with my deck and the tarot itself, then it will reveal hidden alternatives and/or consequences to events.
I just drew a 9 of wands...
Wonder what that means?
Probably...an Assailant of sorts..or someone stocking me...Maybe Robin Hood for example?

It seems i really need to deal with the queen of wands within me because i am unbalanced and unhappy with that side of me lately.
Does anyone else here identify with queen of wands in any way?
Tarot is telling me the way to best deal with/manage the situation is through happiness which makes complete sense but i just need to find the best way to achieve that.
The queen of wands is full of fire (100% me) and has a hard time controlling that fire. The "fire" is pure powerfully unbridled passions and when misdirected can lead to destruction.
Im loving how tarot is helping me learn more about myself almost every day now, i just need to figure out a better manner to directly apply what im learning.
