PF Jar screw up

Alright, I inoculated my first set of 12 jars the other day and i realized i had missed one, probably very important step. I had left the half inch at the top for the verm but me being retarded and all i forgot to put the verm in. I put the tin foil on, sterilized my jars for 20 minutes, let them cool off for about 20 minutes and then innoculated them with a sterile needle. I was just wondering first if they would still colonize and second of all what are the chances of them being contaminated. Any input helps thanks.

No sense in throwing it out yet. If I were you I would cover the top with a couple coffee filters (use a rubberband). Even better maybe some tyvek. Just wait and see.

its possible to bring them to fruiting without contamination... keep them in a closed environment, like a rubbermaid tub, cloud it up with lysol, and don't open it at all for at least a week...

They may be ok with out the verm on top but only cooking them for 20 min sounds like a very short time to me..I cook mine for 60 minute, overkill yes but better safe than sorry. Next thing is i dont think you let them cool off long enough, 20 minutes wow...ill bet they are still very hot in the center, maybe not but id give your chance for success 50/50.

I also have another question, i have an 8 quart pressure cooker and in order to fit them all in at once i would have to turn 4 of them on their side and put them on the tray above the other 8. Is this ok to do or no. I rushed my first time through even though i had already done a tone of research. Oh well we'll see how they do i just want to get it right the second time through.

woah, i totally missed that 20 minute part... you need to pc them for longer than that... I'd take the lids off, put verm in, and pc for an hour...

Mike, its too late to take the lid off and put the verm in and pressure cook it. I innoculated them last saturday. Although i dont see any kind of colonization yet it still is too late to go back and do that right?

yeah, its too late unless you have more spore solution... you may still be ok, just try to handle them as little as possible...

Ya i do have more spore solution but i sprayed my whole box with the lysol and im just going to let them go see what happens and just pray that atleast a couple or even one comes through. I put the tinfoil under the cap and then screwed it on and then sterilized it so the only time that they were exposed to the air is when i poked the hole through the tinfoil through the hole in my cap and then they were taped right up so we'll see what happens. You live and you learn, next time ive got it down though.

that tinfoil might be a good enough barrier to prevent contams... I'm curious to see what happens....

Alright well here is an update. After about a week ive got a good amount of mycellium on some and the others have about 4-5 patches. No sign of any contams yet but im still waiting and seeing what happens and praying that they just keep away from my jars. I do have one question. Since i did forget to add the verm in the jars in the beginning when i go to fruit my cakes should i place them on top of some verm in a jar lid or what should i do when i go to fruit them. Anything helps thanks
