8inch Maxfan 675CFM for flow hood?
    #24194353 - 03/26/17 10:50 AM (7 years, 1 month ago)

I wasn't sure if I should post this here or in Science and Technology so I apologize if it's in the wrong place.

I didn't see any threads about use of a MaxFan in a hepa filter build so I thought I'd ask. I have a working 8"Maxfan. It's rated for 675CFM...I think that's high enough for a small build but I'm worried that it will wear the fan out prematurely as it's an inline duct fan. What do you guys think?

No reason it wouldnt work as long as enough CFM at the correct static pressure.

That's not entirely true. Some fans may not have a 100% duty cycle at higher resistance.

This is what I'm worried about. And if it's not running at 100% then the resistance could be damaging the motor. but I'm not sure. any HVAC guys out there?

Well as someone who has used all types of inlines over the years, max fan, vortex, canfan ect..., not for flow hoods though, I can tell you they are meant to take a serious beating, and there are all sorts of carbon and 'hepa-type' filters that are made to work with them so I wouldnt think it would be an issue.  I dont think I have ever seen the end of a duty cycle on one of them in 10 years and I have never bought one new, they are pretty durable, just often loud
