Casing beginning to colonize...
    #2419410 - 03/11/04 03:50 PM (14 years, 3 months ago)

Alright, I went ahead and took out my 6 1/2 jars and put 2 jars in 3 seperate 5x5x3 containers lined with foil. I cased using the 60/40 tek, covered with saran wrap, and put into my incubator 2 days ago. I took a peep in today and noticed white spots starting to form on top of the casing mix.

How much needs to be colonized before I can put them into the fruiting chamber?? Also, do I cold shock them before hand or not??

And, one question regarding my rubbermaid terrarium. I plan on using perlite to line the bottom and then just mist and fan throughout the day since I'm always here. Someone told me to put a hole in the actual rubbermaid to allow for gas exchange. Is this correct, or is fanning enough? Also, when should I start preparing my fruiting chamber?? THANKS!!!

first one last.. prepare it now

let your casing colonize for another day or 3

and no hole should be needed in your lid

and kramer says not to mist unless the casing starts drying (change in color)

don't mist meaning once they are in the fruiting chamber?? I need to read the teks on preparing the fruiting chamber using perlite and misting the sides, etc.
