thanks
the guide you linked is really solid too, all right angles and less plexiglass, and doesnt require the precision measurements needed for the pins
i really dig the usb quickcharger in mine
ive added another light on the bottom, under the rack, to provide a backlight for agar work (as needed)

That looks highly restricive and expensive when you could just have a box, a filter and a fan.

i cant tell if you are joking or just trying to be cute or what
thats what i say every time i see a Ferrari or a chick with nice tits... like: "damn that looks highly restrictive!! youd have to be crazy not to prefer a minivan and a homely hometown girl with A cups "
yeah, you could do that, if you just wanted a box, a filter, and a fan... and just a few inches of laminar-ish flow (which is what OP is struggling with, in case you missed), with turbulence from all 4 edges... and no lights, and no USB quick charger or AC plugs
but i patterned mine off of real ones, looked at more than 10 catalogs and 30 designs, got feedback from people who work with them, and built it around my needs, workflow, and added everything i could want
i will post the table when i get back from a work trip, i am building a custom table for it with an enail built in
so far it has been an absolute dream to use, perfect laminar flow edge to edge, havent seen a contaminated plate since i built it, doing over a hundred a day
the difference cost wise was minuscule, and effort is kind of my jam if you know how to do carpentry work the difference in the cost of an extra half sheet of plywood is nothing, and the convenience and performance is more than worth it.
build what you want/need, or buy it; some projects are more serious than others and will have different needs/goals, and theres nothing wrong with that

well lights ,an inert surface, and lack of turbulance seem like certainly worth the effort man - usb I don't know ... anyway your way ahead of me, I have only acquired a nice blower, and newbie that I am, am still in search of a good source for a HEPA filter, who is good these days?

It looks nice, but it's overkill to solve a tiny problem, which could have been avoided by more planning and making more accurate cuts in the first place.
It's like owning a Lambourghini (sp?) when every block has a stop sign. It's nice and it's got lots of potential, but it's really not needed at all.

I don't follow... what "problem" in my build could have been "avoided" by making which cuts more "accurate"?
the "planning" is exactly why my hood turned out so well... it certainly wasn't an accident that those pins lined up....
its OK 36, people cope with jealousy in their own way you'd reaaaally hate my gfs tits... they actually are restrictive
I was hoping you had a real criticism so I could improve something, always trying to improve... always criticizing the hell outta myself and everything I do/think, youre totally invited to join
lol what you'd call "not needed" I call last month's goal, completed
this month's goal, however, fits quite comfortably in the "excessive" catagory

Didn't realize you weren't the OP. The problem I was talking about was his hood sucking in air. I should probably pay more attention to user names.
Yes, I am a little jealous. I'd love to use a hood like that. I just wouldn't want to build one because I could get something equally effective for cheaper. To get the same freedom of movement that you would with a 2' high hood with no top you'd probably need 2'6"-3'.
As for your gs's tits, I can't know until I see pics.

that was my primary concern in building a hood vs a cabinet, i have really wide shoulders and big arms, so anything short of a totally custom SAB was a pain in the ass to use... the SAB i built out of wood and plexi turned out really comfy though
i knew i needed at least 2x2' , and figured my shoulders would be outside of even that... when i am in the groove, i do between 100-200 plates a day, so any comfort or convenience is appreciated and helps keep me from turning into a shroomy ted bundy
surprisingly, i havent found it as restrictive as i expected to, though i had to change my workflow up a lot (dont keep 200 plates out at a time anymore, i work in groups of 60 at a time)
still havent tried any bag to bag or the like, thats gonna really push it...

Hey guys I'm back . I'm waiting on the materials to test the hood with some agar petridishes. Hope I everything goes well. I had a Colonized open pp5 turn upside down in front of the hood for a couple of seconds. The bottom was still uncolonized and week has passed and no contamination. I Will do some agar dishes and hope for the best.
