I recently finished Shoe Dog.  It's the story of how Nike got started.  Great read.

I'm currently on Kitchen Confidential - Shoe Dog got me into a memoir mood.  It's written by Anthony Bourdain.  His style is very similar to Hunter S. Thompson's and surprisingly, for a book written by a chef, the subject material is very similar as well.  Drugs, sex, violence, etc.

My girlfriends friend from grad school just gave us House of Leaves because she thought I would enjoy it.  I know I have heard of it before somewhere, but not sure where.  Anyone have any reviews on it?

Im about 1/3 thru the book Through Wolf's Eyes by Jane Lindski (sp?).

Im thinking i might give up on it. The first part was awesome thou: the first 1/4 of the book was about this girl (the main character) who was raised by Royal Wolfs and its about her living in the forest then being discovered by this group of guys looking for evidence of a lost Prince.

The second "book" (its all in one book but its called book II) is about her going to the Kings castle and living there. Its Ok, i really enjoy the main girls but now theres side stories with all of the kings family and their weird  royal drama. Pretty boring.

Luckily i have other books

It's sort of philosophy/psychology/expanded consciousness all in one. It's by RAW, who is the best. It's another book I'm reading that details the eight neurological circuits of consciousness, which include four "lower" circuits which deal with evolution for survival on Earth, and four "higher" circuits, which transcend the lower circuits and would be involved in the future evolution of humanity. For example, LSD is said to activate the 7th circuit, also called the "metaprogramming" circuit. It has to do with the brain becoming conscious of its own operation, and allowing for dramatically more freedom and choice -- a sort of true "free will." That's just one example, it's very involved. You should check it out, you will definitely not be disappointed.

Just finished 'The Widow's Strike' By Brad Taylor last night. I'm loving that series of books right now. Called The Pike Logan series. Anybody who likes Tom Clancy or Robert Ludlum will love it. It's more modern and action packed.

Also just started reading 'Pegasus Bridge' by Stephen E. Ambrose who wrote Band of Brothers. It's (I think) a non-fiction account of the British Airborne invasion of Normandy on D-Day.

Excellent book. I'd be happy to talk it with you when you're done.

Getting into the home stretch of school so I haven't had much time to read, but I'm ~halfway done this now.  I don't know what I expected but there's a bunch of overlap with this book and The Elegant Universe, and the latter goes into much greater detail.  It's still a really well written book and I'd recommend it to anyone who hasn't read TEU, but so far I haven't learned anything new.  Past a certain point it's hard to find new information on this kind of topic without actually learning the maths, and TEU impressed me so much and went into so much more detail on string theory that I think I may have gotten my hopes up too high.

Still though, only halfway done and I think there are a couple more interesting universes to cover after the 3 or so that arise from string theory.  Not to mention, TEU didn't get really deep into things until past the halfway point either, so I certainly shouldn't count it out just yet.

Thoughts on The Alchemist?  Anyone read this one?

I picked it up this afternoon as I'm nearing the completion of my current book.  I had read some pretty decent reviews of it initially, and now I'm finding that the reviews are mixed at best and I'm having buyer's remorse.

Just finished Through Wolf's Eyes by Jane Lindskold.

I have mixed feelings on the book. It has its really great parts, but a lot of the fine details with the characters names (which one character has many different names) was annoying. I give it a solid C.

Just started The Fourth Guardian by Ronald Anthony Cross. Now this is my kind of book. Perfect blend of perverseness, weirdness, and trippiness.

Im gunna like this book :solidnod:

Just wanted to update my feelings on The Forth Guardian. Im more than half way thru it, very addicting book.

Wow this book is amazing. Such a complex story. The magic in the book is a direct reflection of the psychedelic experience. Definitely reminds me of shrooms or LSD. The author Ronald Anthony Cross makes many drug references in the book, its no question hes done a lot of drugs.

Also the way the characters are written feels so real, like these are real people. Expertly written.

The book feels like a blend of Cloud Altas, Dr. Strange and Pulp Fiction. So good. Glad this is only book 1 of the series.

Just picked up a book from a rare book shop.

It's called Adam in Moonshine, written by J.B. Priestley.

Very old, first published in 1927.

I'm re-reading Patrick Rothfuss's books at the moment.

They avoid a lot of the more annoying tropes in the fantasy genre and he writes with a sort of poetic prose that implies more than the words literally say. He's one of my favorites.
