Psilo's Poly Stuffing Tek
When looking to stuff my monotubs, I often run into two types of polyfill at the local store.
One is called "extra loft" poly and is a lot thicker than the polyester fiberfill type.

I've always seen people use the lighter poly to stuff their holes, but never a mixture of both, so I decided to make my own mini-mono to test its effectiveness. The bottom holes will be stuffed with the "extra-loft" type and the top holes will be stuffed with the "polyester fiberfill" type.
This mono was spawned 8 days ago and polyfill was applied at the time of spawning.
A 1/4-1/2" top layer of coir/verm was placed over the bulk sub after mixing it up really well. The spawn/sub ratio was 1:1.5 and field capacity was carefully measured.
You only want a few drops coming out of the mix when squeezing at max strength with both hands. I've always read that it's better to be on the dry side, than the wet side, so that's definitely something to keep in mind.

Here's my method for folding and applying the "extra-loft" poly in the bottom holes:
You want to start with a 7 x 7" square of polyfill. The poly will be stuck together in two layers. Separate it and divide it into two halves.

Then, fold each piece end over end two times, until you have a small thick square of poly.

Now grab each corner and fold it into the middle. Then get the sides folded in. A rounded thick ball of poly will be formed and now you can stuff it through your bottom holes.

The top holes were stuffed tightly with the "polyester fiberfill" poly at the time of spawning, but after seeing a bit of aerial mycelium on the surface, I decided it was time to increase the FAE, so I reduced the poly until I was able to just place it into the holes gently (no stuffing).

I also gave the tub a nice misting today (day 8), to replenish lost moisture on the surface and to help initiate pinning as it evaporates. All in all, this mono colonized as lot faster than any mono I've done before, and I'm excited to see how it turns out.
I'll keep you guys updated on my progress. Thanks for following along!

You shouldn't use LC lids for your spawn jars, it is designed for liquid cultures so when you shake the jar the liquid doesn't wet the GE filter and potentially cause contamination through your lid.
For spawn jars, just drill a 3/8" hole through the center, stuff tightly with polyfill, and load them up

Stuff the poly as tight as possible for jar lids
