it's regulated by heat, your pressure cooker can sit there sealed all day and it won't build any pressure, I quite often turn the heat all the way up immediately, if they are out of the water they won't get fucked. the paper towel will come out soaked but that's fine. I'm just often in a hurry and don't have time to babysit the pressure cooker. I'd rather turn it on wait for it to start rocking, turn it down a little and leave for a half hour. but if you have the time I suggest turning it on low, waiting 10 mins and turning it up slightly every 10 minutes until it starts rocking

This one is for you pasty: a AA941 PC filled with pasty's... About 40 of them. I was pissed when I realized I could've fit 12 more but ran out of pasty's.

I created my first pasty plates and squirted old unfridged LC in there. I squirted too much from the syringe so the whole plates were covered in it, negating the purpose of the agar surface. Mycelium grew all over the plate but it could not be called sterile. I could use an inoculation loop next time if I ever use the LC again, but I would have to learn how. Maybe squirt some in a sterilized bottle cap and dip in the loop?

I created 8 new plates. 4 got small chunks from the previous plates and look fantastic so far. The other 4 got hastily scraped spores from a crappy print I made, and mycelium can now be seen on at least 3 of them. I plan to make a blenderless liquid inoculate from one of each group to make two 32 qt. no-hole monotubs with WBS and coir (first time doing a bulk so I still need to read about casing and stuff).

For the plates I used no foil or paper on top and put the hole and tape on the side. I have both glads and ziplocs. The square ziplocs seem to stack much easier than the glad rounds and maybe resist getting crushed by the pressure a bit better.

I did a lot of dumb things and fiddling around too much in the SAB when making the 8 latest plates, but it seemed to work out. The tek is easy. It was easier than my LC was with its ghetto silicone injection ports that required me to stab the syringe several times to get through the off-center hole. Use agar.

Click my link in my signature then click agar. Then click the comprehensive agar from there's a demonstration of using a swab/loop

I have a 1925x and just sold a 1915x... for now ill just stick with this 25x, my place is hella small and this hobby has taken over it all! lol shit I went with the smaller oyster blender at the thrift store just because this shit is getting out of hand...

pasty was right, and I forget his exact quote, but you start with a few plates, couple months later and you have fucking mini rounds everywhere and the lady at the asian market calls you the "agar-agar guy"... fun hobby

when im ready ill get the 41qt steroclave... finding the sweetspot on a hotplate is a weird thing for me... seems like its always changing

Ahh yeah I know the feeling lol, I haven't even got a crop yet and there's so many fucking jars, bottles, agar dishes and paraphernalia (PC, SFD etc) strewn about the place.

Lol @ you being the agar-agar guy

Is it better to just drop the spores from a syringe on the top or to make a small hole with the needle after flame sterilizing?

doesn't matter IMO poking the agar just kind of helps the spores stay where you want them. I only make a hole in the surface if I'm inoculating with an inoculation loop and that's just because I've convinced myself that it gives the spores easier access to the water.. I have nothing to back that assumption up with though.

All I have are syringes and I am still working on my first 9 jars of spawn colonizing so trying this out as I just poured 8 plates and letting them cool down so I can pressure cook them in the morning.  Just trying to keep myself productive.

they'll be fine overnight as long as you close them. I wouldn't leave them open cuz they'll dry out

They are all sealed and I can see quite a bit of condensation on the insides so I think I am all set.  I think I need to work on my preparing because my last dish didn't get as much as the other 7 I think i added to much honey on accident.

I honestly don't even use honey. occasionally I'll add a drop to aid germination but generally not necessary. there have been times where I boil too much and end up with as few as 5 plates. you'll dial it down, it's not an exact science. unless you tend on testing different variables (which most can't do effectively as there are too many variables and few have access to a genuine monoculture)

1. Can Agar Agar powder be used instead of the bar?

Like this:

http://fiestafarms.ca/13347/food/agar-agar-the-vegan-gelatin-alternative

2. 1 plate of successful agar agar mycelium can be used for multiple grain jars, right?
