I've got a Mirro pressure cooker I didn't bother to read the instructions for because I was a stoner moron taking a PATHETIC stab at the PF tek. If this changes my contam rates when I use oats I'm gonna shit.

I love that you tape quarters to your jiggle weight. Mine, well I don't even know what brand it is. I got it on clearance for 60% off(paid $39.99+tax) back in 2006. Only has a jiggle weight, and a "High pressure" valve. I only got the High pressure to go off one time way back in the day. Not sure what PSI it goes off at. I know this thing is a 15psi PC but I been thinking about adding extra weight to the jiggler since I have a 2nd higher pressure safety valve. Unfortunately mine never came with a trivet, and as such I never new how far off the bottom I had to go. So I have been using the metal bands off jars with a 12 inch flat pizza screen to keep jars off the bottom. Do they only have to be like 1/8th inch off the bottom? Shit if so, I can fit more than 18 pints . This big bitch will hold at least 11 wide mouth quarts. I may be able to get more.

I have been thinking about a "Show off your PC" thread just for fun. Show off your good or bad PC. Could be a good learning thread for noobs.

i could never buy an AA new, they are too much... but ive bought several used off cl for KILLER prices.... if someone is lookin for one, i recommend setting a "saved search" on craigslist for pressure cookers (AA specifically if thats what youre hunting), and contact the ones you are interested in (or do like i do and set a script to email them all and ask if they want to trade for whatever you have laying around, i got a 921 for 40$ like that once)

Good stuff bod!! I like the breakdowns and especially the venting section. That's not explained often and I've been guilty of pressurizing too soon before

$40 is a hell of a score! I had honestly been thinking about one down the road, but honestly that much more $$$ for 4 extra quarts, don't think I can do it.

Dalton's partial pressure law
If you have say 50% air still trapped in the pressure cooker youll see 15 on the gauge but the temperature will only be 220F rather than 250F
Actually to sterilize a syringe that's filled with liquid and not have it all come out during the cycle they use an air steam mix cycle.
It will be 15psi of steam and 250F but they inject compressed air in to raise the pressure to 30+ then slowly lower the pressure at the end of the cycle.

Try some silicon oil if you have some, it does a very good seal.
