I'm pretty sure it's fine to give your jars light. I usually give them a 12/12 light schedule Just like during fruiting. Mycelium benefits from light at every stage of growth.

Yes, verm, water then brf. Maybe it all is fine then. The ones I birthed thus far all smell what I think is the way they should too.

At least with my jars that is not true.

Since removing the light on my incubator my mycelium has exploded 3 times as big in two day

When you use the lids with the SFD, do you choose to take the lid off rather than using a silicone SHIP because it is the safer option? Or would making a SHIP with silicone still be just as effective as taking the lid off and squirting into the jar?

If the silicone SHIP works, then i feel like that would be better for a beginner like me to lessen the risk of contams getting in when opening the jar.

depends on how I'm feeling. Either way will work. If you go thru the ship, don't remove the foil until you are about to knock the jar up.

Any of you wiser than me folks have an idea what's going on with these fruits my cakes are producing? The first cake looked as i thought they should, the rest are fruiting kind of slow thick dark and stubby. Maybe its too wet in there?

Two BRF questions on this day:

Waiting a little long to harvest some fruits and the caps turned a little purple. Are these guys still okay to dry and eat?

And, some jars i shot up a little over a week ago, same batch, and the one on the left is the usual brown around colonizing and the one on right the substrate seemed to turn a very dark brown, almost black. Any ideas what's going on here?

Ziran this is excellent.

I did my first grow like this but I had to do a lot of research whereas here it's all laid out nicely.

Frank thanks you :mushdance:

This is so good. Thank you so much! This gave me the confidence to finally try this.

Couple questions:

How long is too long for colonization? I used 4 holes in the lids and 1/2 pint jars. The all have growth, but it has been almost a month and the white still does not cover all the BRF mixture. At what point do you know it is ready for birthing? Does white have to cover everything? I don't mind leaving them longer, but am worried I will leave them too long. I did not use light for the jars, only room light and it is in a closet with the door ajar.

Thank you again!
