Thank you. Maybe the mistake I was making has been using a humidity gauge and trying to keep above 90 consistently rather than just paying attention to the glistening. Any recommendations moving forward?

And I am assuming that they are still okay to harvest, dry consume and that the cakes can be dunked again and go for another flush.?.

From what ive heard you shouldnt completely rely on humidity gauges to determine how much to mist. The most important thing is maintaining proper humidity at the surface level, which can not be measured with a gauge. Like you said, this is done by just making sure the surface is glistening. Even if the gauge is saying your fruiting chamber is 90, at the surface level it could be completely different.

Yea those are completely fine to eat. Id give them a dunk and make sure they get proper fae/misting so that the caps dont stay too wet again and deform.

Day 10 since inoculation.

All jars are about 70% completed.

No signs of contamination.

Very excited.

Thanks man!

So I know I still got some time before birthing, but i'm still not sure with how I want to go about spawning?

SGFC seems to be outdated and personally having used one I do see the complaints people have.

I also don't really have a place for a large FC at this time.

I've seen people just throw a bag over the top of jars with some pretty good results, though i'm not sure how that works. i'm guessing you dunk and return the cakes to the jars after dunking with a layer of verm on top then fit the bag over?

I've also seen a whole lot of talk about shoebox's. Where, IIRC, you cheese grate the fully colonized and dunked cakes itno a small rubbermaid/ziplock that is 'shoe-box' sized and you mix it with cooled, pasteurized coco coir/verm? is that right?

Sorry for the noob questions, I'm still catching up lol.

I am not sure if this will help anyone, but it might. I am in my first run with this. A little over a week ago, I posted pics here of some jars and that I was worried it was taking too long. I was told they looked good. So, today, I checked the jars, they have been colonizing for a few weeks. I noticed a couple tiny pins and it was, like oh shit.

Bottom line is that I got completely faked out by the verm layer and was expecting to see white everywhere. I am not sure if the verm layer expanded or not, but obviously only the brown rice part was colonizing. In any case, I birthed the jars and have them soaking now. They were completely ready and I probably left them in at least a week too long. Also, the one jar where I ran out of spores and could only inoculate one hole has done as well as the jars with all four holes inoculated. Next time, I may just do two holes per jar.

Next time I will know better. Thanks again for this Tek.

If they are pinning in the jar sometimes its better to let it roll. Ive had ones pinning at 95% colonization that I let go till 100% then birthed instead of letting it consolidate a week.

I soaked them and then rolled them, put in SGFC. I am not sure what fully colonized looks like exactly, but these sure looked like it to me. Solid white and firm. I actually think I let them stay in the jar quite a bit longer than I needed to. Like I said, I kept waiting for the white to extend farther up in the jar, then realized it was the verm layer I was looking at. I am thinking that the BRF mix compressed a bit in the pressure cooker and made the verm layer extend down more than when I made the jars. I guess I will find out if I did the right thing or not. Thanks!

if they are 100% white on all sides and bottom, then its 100% colonized.
