Looking for pictures of good WBS jars
    #2417515 - 03/11/04 02:29 AM (12 years, 11 months ago)

If anyone has a link or has some pictures of WBS jars that have been sterilized properly in a PC, that don't have too much water, or aren't too sticky, i would very much appreciate them.

Also, How loose should the grain be inside PC'd WBS jars? Should there be a few small clumps, no clumps at all? If the grain can move around at least some will that do, or what?

I would like to inoculate at least some of the jars i've prepared, but I have found the instructions/resources available a bit confusing on the matter of what is acceptable to inocc. and go as planned. any help is much appreciated, thank you.

For me, the right water content means that
the grains look dark and moist, but there
are no clumps, so all the grain is still loose
and there is no water sitting in the bottom
of the jars.

Sorry, havent got a picture handy.

Good advice, AFOAF has just recently wasted ALOT of time trying to get grains right. I just recently found something that's good for draining, so it's not an issue for me, but for other people, what do you guys use to drain?

AFOAF was trying to use a low thread count sheet because he couldn't find a suitable bag even after shopping around. The sheet didn't seem to drain enough and anything I found with holes the holes were too big.

I recently found what I think is an antique food preparation device of some sort that does the job perfectly. It's a metal cone on a handle with small holes in it that came with a stick to mash stuff down into it. Anyone know what this thing is actually supposed to be used for? Looks like it was made to squish the liquid out of something solid.

what ilike to do is, soak seed in warm water for 6 hours,
strain, rinse, strain, jar up and pc.

Lots of ways work, you just have to find the one that best suits you.

I stoped boiling, due to the seed becoming to moist, i also stoped
soaking for 12 hours for the same reasons.

p.s, only half to 2 thirds fill the jars with
seed, as this gives plenty of room for shaking.

Then ill add that seed ( 2/3 ) in a sterilized jar and put water to cover all the seeds ... Then ill pressure cook it ... Is this ok ... I need some answer fast , becose i allready cook my spore syringe making equipment in my PC ...

No, no, no. You either soak the seeds for hours and then drain them rinse them and load them like that(their hydrated at this point), OR you rinse the seeds, add the seeds and water then pc without ever soaking. If you soak, then add water, it will never work.

So you are saying, that if I soaked them for 10 hours, then rinsed and drained a bit, that i am to fill my jars 2/3s of the way full with the grain, bit add NO water after that? and that if I did not soak them, that i just rinse/drain them and then I put grain AND extra water in it? if this is the case, some of the teks, and guides need to explain that because none of them do. If thats what all of them meant, i'm pretty annoyed that it isn't very clear that you do one or the other.

Now, should I do a test and innoculate the ones i think shake the most, and are the least clumpiest, and no pools of water at the bottom, or if i'm having doubts at all should I just redo them all?

Nope, all is fine, just don't add any extra water into the jars, just the damp seed.

Thing is there are many tecs, some dont soak just add a certain amount of water and pc, some soak dont add water and pc and some
boil dont add water and pc.

There are a lot of ways to skin this cat.

You need to find what works best for you, and stick with it.
