Gymnopolis thiersii Los Angeles

I typically just take pictures of mushrooms that I don't know rather than pick them, but this one was so beautiful that I decided to pick it to take home and get a proper ID. As I was walking back to my car with my pup, carrying the mushroom in hand, I noticed that where the cap was touching my hand it appeared to be bruising greenish blue. After looking online the closest match I saw was gymnopolis luteoviridis, although it said it was an east coast variety.

Habitat: Where does it grow? Walking dog near my house in Los Angeles. Growing in a tree-shaded area under a bush in tall grassy area. Attached to a hardwood log.
Gills: orange, attached. Spore print was orange brown
Stem: about 2.5" long 3/16" wide, beige to orange. Fibrous. Darkening to orange ang softening with handling
Cap: about 2" across. Pale yellow with magenta scales. Very soft. Growing with bifurcation. Plump but planar
Spore print color: Brownish orange
Bruising: stem just darkened to rust with handling, but cap appears to have bruises greenish blue where it contacted my hand. Was not expecting this. I had just picked it cuz it looked so perty.
Other information: Scent of the mushroom, anything else you think is important, large close-up pictures showing stem, cap and gills.

I think this is one of those situations where someone will chime in to say that the differences between Gymnopilus can only be determined via microscopy and/or DNA analysis.
Not 100% on that, but I think that is the case here.

What other species does it resemble in your opinion? With the pale yellow color and the delicate stem, I didn't see any other possibles but maybe I didn't dig deep enough. If it is luteoviridis it would be unusual...mushroom observer doesn't show any observations west of Texas.

That is probably the closest that I saw in a brief search as well.

That looks like a pretty good match. It was so soft and lovely that I picked it to get an ID without suspecting it might be active. Just goes to show you what a noob I am when it comes to anything but west coast wood lovers. Grew up in Seattle and harvested heaps of cyans every year since 1990 but never bothered to learn anything about other species. Totally binary in my ID skills.... Good one vs. not good one. Trying to remedy that now at 45. Have a bunch of other SoCal mushroom pics I'll post soon. Thanks for the feedback. Only joined this site this winter when I unexplainedly was somehow reinfected with the mushroom bug which had faded into the background with my move to LA 6 yrs ago.

Any idea of potency or dosage with this species? Searching of this site and Internet at large doesn't come up with anything.

That material reads, generally weak and variable, however some folks have reported softening their noodle pretty good with small doses. One indicator for you is that they bruised blue fast......

I definitely think it is the one that passes as Junoirous in this state. Whatever it is, it is active which i can confrim i have found a cluster of active yellow spp from california but no active collection of "Theirsii". Simply breathtaking though.

I'd love to see it cultivated. It looks unique from anything else I've found pictures of. Probably just morphology, but still cool.
