hello i;m new to shrooms and hunting and was wondering if there were any good books out? I'm looking for one that list only pyscedelic shrooms, how to identify them, where they grow, ect. and there lookalikes and ways to tell them apart. Also a book on general mycology all species. I've also heard that there is a mushroom in the amantia family that is edible, i know many are poisonous so just throwing that out there. Thanks for all your help guys!

Psilocybin Mushrooms of the World by Paul Stamets lists psychoactive (psilocybin) species from around the world. Check out the Shroomery Bookstore in my sig. All sales that go through the bookstore help the Shroomery. Amanita muscaria is an active species that can be boiled and eaten in a culinary fashion. Eaten dried, this species can induce hallucinations due to the presence of muscimol and ibotenic acid (thanks MJ for the correction). Joshua

Joshua, A quote for you from MJ.
Quote:
Ibotenic acid and muscimol are the active ingredients in Amanita muscaria, not muscarine, the latter is a toxin which causes nausea, vomiting, severe stomach cramps, and even diarrhea.

If I were you I would stick to Psilocybe species and/or Copelandia, again that depends on where you live.
Gymnopilus species are not that common and can be confusing to a beginner.
Of course Paul shows one or maybe two species of Gyms.
Look in the Shroomery's Ultimate shroom Guide. There are 1500 photographs of more than 56 species of psilocybian mushrooms.
Have a shroomy day,
mj
