The Urantia Book
    #2417091 - 03/11/04 12:14 AM (12 years, 11 months ago)

I just began reading this and I was curious as to what the opinions of the S&P members consisted of concerning this book.

For those who do not know what the Urantia book is, www.urantia.com
There is a full copy of the book on this site.

Sorry for the lack of information regarding the actual book, but I haven't finished it yet, so I cannot comment really.

Thanks in advance.

i read the foreword, it's very wordy and vague, seems interesting enough though. I'm going to read on, I'll give you my opinions in a couple days

Hehehe, "Egypto-Christian".

So, this kind of stuff has been around since the '50's?

Haven't read it, don't know too much 'bout it... *shrugs*
Peace.  :mushroom2:

I took it out of the library and skimmed it for a few weeks. I think they tried to write it in the same style as the Bible to make it seem more "official," but it comes off even more ridiculous- wordy, unclear and painfully redundant.

I think you fail to see the point of the book.

The only reason the book is "wordy & vague" is because the concepts the book is trying to convey are quite complex.
And unfortunately human language isn't always the best way of describing
ideas or concepts, especially when there so abstract in the first place.

And the reason the book is styled after the bible is because it's organized by Paper, Section, Paragraph.

There is 196 'Papers' in the book, each Paper contains everywhere from 6-12 'Sections.  The book is extensive in the use of language, but it can be red.

Maybe not necessarily understood ;-)
