What interactions will Vitamin C have with reishi extract

it is recommended to take reishi extract with some source of vitamin c, what if the reishi extract already has vitamin C in it? If I added Vitamin C to a reishi extract what kind of effects and interactions would it have with the medicinal compounds?

So nobody knows what happens if you just include vitamin C in your reishi extract?

Vitamin C is often recommended with any medicinal mushroom because Vit C has been shown to enhance assimilation of beta-glucans and polysaccharides - active constituents in the mushrooms.

Yeah but if you add the vitamin c into a mushroom extract So that the Betaglucans, and Polysacharides are sitting mixed with eh Vitamin C on the shelf what interaction if any will this have. the basic question is would it be a good or bad idea to add Vitamin C to a reishi extract?

Mostly a cultivation forum not going to have the world's best answers to that particular question I would guess

I assume this is for cancer treatment? If so, don't premix the ascorbic acid with the extract, keep them in separate capsules and dose simultaneously. It is beneficial to include ascorbic acid in the treatment but sugars and acids will react with each other so stability is an issue.
There are papers stating that it could also depolymerize the beta-glucans through oxidation aside from acid hydrolysis.

Degradation of cereal beta-glucan by ascorbic acid induced oxygen radicals
Reetta Kivelä Fred Gates Tuula Sontag-Strohm
Degradation of cereal beta-glucan is usually attributed to enzymes or acid hydrolysis. However, there is evidence that polysaccharides are also susceptible to OH-radical induced depolymerisation, and that these radicals can be produced in cereal food systems. The role of Fenton type oxidation was demonstrated in pure beta-glucan solution (0.6%). An addition of ascorbic acid (10 mM) or its oxidation product, dehydroascorbic acid, in the presence of iron sulphate resulted in a significant decrease of the solution viscosity and molecular degradation of beta-glucan. The viscosity decrease was inhibited by introducing a radical OH-scavenger (glucose) in the solution or limiting oxygen level in the sample solution. This demonstrates the role of OH-radicals in beta-glucan scission and suggests oxidative cleavage to be a potential threat for the stability of beta-glucan in certain fibre enriched products.

Combination of glucan, resveratrol and vitamin C demonstrates strong anti-tumor potential.
Vetvicka V, Vetvickova J.
β-Glucans are naturally occurring carbohydrates found in plants, fungi and some bacterial species, and currently are well-established and powerful immunomodulators with beneficial properties in cancer therapy. Recent studies suggested that some additional bioactive molecules have synergistic effects when combined with glucan. In the current study, we evaluated the anticancer properties of glucan, resveratrol, vitamin C combination. We found that compared to the individual components, the combination was the strongest activator of phagocytosis and antibody formation. Using two different models of cancer treatment, our results demonstrated that the combination strongly suppressed the growth of breast and lung tumors, most likely due to the stimulation of apoptosis.
and remember, fuck cancer!

Thank you! For a second there I was starting to think that nobody has ever thought about including Vitamin C in a reishi extract.

I personally haven't but from my limited chem knowledge acid + sugar = hydrolysis. If you could keep the mixture completely anhydrous and protect it from heat then it shouldn't break down through acid hydrolysis but then there is the depolymerization from reactive oxygen species. You would have to keep the mixture completely void of oxygen, moisture, and heat to ensure stability... assuming there are no enzymes in the mix that will react on the B-glucans.
if you could denature or remove any enzymes in the extract, strip it of all moisture through vacuum, and add glucose to the mixture it might be stable for a long enough period of time in an area protected from heat and light (fridge).
It's not worth it though, it's way easier to store them separately and it gives you greater control over the ratio of the dose. If you mix your VitC with the extract then you are stuck with that ratio. If you have them in separate capsules you could dose 1:1, 2:1, 7:1, or whatever other proportions you can think of.
