Because I agree with the Jeffersonian interpretation of the constitution.

What do you think Jefferson would have said about this part of the Constitution:
"The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration."
You think he would believe that this portion of the Constitution doesn't give Congress the power to tax your income?

I am referencing the sovereignty of states, which is short hand for the sovereignty of the citizens in those states. I, as a sovereign entity, should not be infringed upon by the state by demands of money or a loss of my freedom without agreeing to beforehand. I'm fundamentally anti government, and Jefferson was still a statist.

That didn't answer my question. You said it was unconstitutional and cited Jefferson as your mentor (for lack of a better word) on the Constitution. The 16th amendment appears, to me at least, to give Congress the power to tax anyone's income without their consent. Do you disagree? Do you think Jefferson would disagree?

The power to levy income tax is literally in the constitution.

That's obvious, but you can't start off by saying, "sovereign citizens are full of shit." It's better to confront their lunacy with facts.

You're reframing my argument. You're the one who brought in the point about 50% this or that whatever.
Just because you failed to mention that the lower 50% doesn't pay income taxes, that doesn't mean that they do. Your argument is a giveaway to the rich at the expense of the poor, because if we do what you say and end income taxation, the poor will suddenly be forced to pay for things they currently get without paying any income tax (education, roads, police, etc).
-------------------- I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them. I also attack my side if I think they're wrong. People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

I think you're referring to the Molyneuxian interpretation. Or maybe the Molyneuxian interpretation of the Jeffersonian interpretation...

Webster10 said: By restructuring our trade deals, eliminating illegal immigration, creating a fairer tax code, bringing jobs back, raising our wages, we're going to be a lot better than we were before. The effective tax rate for huge corporations was litterally zero, and huge companies like apple or google sometimes even got money FROM the government from how fucked our tax code was. Trump said in his interview with tucker Carlson last night that he even thinks he paid too little the year of his tax returns that just got released. Everyone was saying he paid what was it, $38 million on even as CNN puts it, $150 million. He even made the point in his interview that he actually made well over $200 million and because of the unfair tax code, he was allowed to deduct a lot of his income unfairly. He went on to say that he's not going to structure the tax code in favor of people like him because he doesn't give a shit about himself anymore, and that his focus is on benefiting the American people. Yes there are some concerning bills that are floating around right now, like RyanCare. But trump is being strategic about all of this. I'm not going to shock you normies with what's actually going on but trumps using these bills to set the stage for turning on certain establishment memebers of congress. In the end, trump is going to get his way on these issues, like healthcare, immigration, tax code and budget. It's a massive power struggle right now, and yeah the establishment proposal is shitty but it's not trumps and that's not the proposal that the American people are going to be subjected to in the end. Does anyone seriously see any situation at all where the middle class fairs WORSE than it did under obama? Anyone?
the punditry... it's so good.
when Trump goes more liberal, it's going to be funny to see the reaction when he giveth and then taketh away.

Republicans will never vote for this budget, too much fiscal sanity in it, they love their big govt just as much as the democrats do. We will be 40 trillion in debt by the next president and both parties will still insist "govt doesn't do enough"

Congress has to approve spending, or cuts of it, not much he can do, can he?
I think he should be just as dictatorial as obama was, but I know he won't, sadly

The Ecstatic said: I'm waiting for the moment where the critical mass hits, and Trump supporters begin disavowing him. But then what? Back to GOP establishment? The Democratic party is just as unpopular, some polls say MORE, than Trump is.
Our entire political system is failing us on seemingly every level. People in this country need to come together and kick these shithead oligarchs out of our halls of power.
Then we can bicker about abortion and guns.
Agreed!
I think in 10 years both parties are going to look far different. The establishment is going to be washed away.
