cloned fruit produces sterile/sporeless fruits

im baffled ! i cloned a normal, nice looking and huge mushroom on agar inoculated grains spawned to substrate fruited it and all, seriously all shrooms from these flushes are sterile/sporeless.
i do not know how this could happen ? isolation was done as usual and even substrate was the same.

Fruits produced from a multi-spore grow can contain several genetically distinct mycelium types in a single fruit body. While it is the correct approach to clone such fruit bodies, it should be done with several repeats. What you are seeing is a result of you being unlucky and having picked for cloning the spot on the fruit that had abnormal mycelium in it. Try again, this time make a few clones and fruit them separately.

i guess you just happened to isolate a sterile substrain. are you sure the parent shroom wasn't sterile ? either way its not a problem unless you wanted prints. RR swears he can taste cube spores and that they taste bad. i just liked a mushrooms covered in spores to see if i agree and i don't. but spores are messy.

Be sure to save it on master slants. Once you have a good isolate, who needs a bunch of messy, nasty old spores anyway? Sporeless fruits are the best for that reason. RR

What RR said!
Quote:

- its whatever you pick out of the fruit body. It did not have to become dominant, the cloning procedure did it.

If you get a good isolate of it on a master slant, I suppose you could always try and grow it on an agar plate along with another mushroom of a similar species (ie one cubensis to another), and hope that they meet and exchange genes.

So quick question. Isn't this a good thing? Being that if you allow your shrooms to drop too many spores it will tell the mycelium to stop producing more ? And will it not increase chance for contams?

please try to refrain from reviving old threads... I'm pretty sure both of those things are outdated info.

Not outdated at all. When there's a massive spore drop, you rarely get any more flushes. Sporeless strains are nice for that reason. Also, spores foul the taste of the product, which tastes crappy enough already if you're eating them raw. RR

I guess it depends on the sporeload, I've never had a problem but I've never let it get out of hand. what's your take on the spores causing contam?

They don't 'cause' contamination, but once the mycelium becomes less vigorous, contamination naturally sets in. RR

great info! I still haven't had an actual grow yet... just lots of playing with agar... right now I'm 2 transfers away from a pins pulled off MS GT plates (8 pins cloned in total) , my plan is to then slant those making LI out of each and then going the bottle tek route (limited space, and I just like the tek for some reason) labeling and notating everything along the way, in an effort to kinda not waste time or do things half assed.
I really want to thank you guys here... I didn't know shit until I signed up here and just kinda buried myself in these forums for the last 3 months reading and finding new questions to hunt the answers down for (pretty much everything is here, if you use that weird thing called "the fucking search bar" (seriously its crazy how much info is here!
still no real mushies grown except those pins, fun ass hobby so far though and I guess I haven't even reaped my rewards yet... guess I just wanted to say thanks everyone
