letter to my congressman 6
#24160392 - 03/13/17 10:35 PM (7 years, 2 months ago) |
|

I suffer from two major disabilities, take several prescription medications, and rely on the Affordable Care Act for coverage that I simply couldn't get before it was enacted. From what I can tell, Trump and Ryan's plan (the American Health Care Act) would be a step in the wrong direction, and would cause costs for me to go up exponentially. Most people do not have the unique knowledge of our medical system that people like me do -- due to such constant contact with it -- and it is clear that the current proposal would be a catastrophic retrogression. In reality, we should be improving upon a system (in Obamacare) that has serious flaws but was a step in the right direction. We simply must not go backwards on this. Congress will have to be more conscientious and bring something better to the table. You're probably just walking the plank, anyway.
I hope you will represent me faithfully.
Respectfully, &c.

Good letter, my understanding is this will help everyone who wants coverage, and even help those who don't.
O'care needs fixing, hopefully this is a step in that direction

Yes, I've contacted my congress lady and our two senators about this. If you pester them enough, they often listen.

I'm with you DQ.
Does ANYONE think Trump's healthcare plan is any better than Obamacare? If you do, how so?

Sorry to break the news OP, but your congressmen don't represent your interests, they represent the interests of the people that put them into office.
They don't care about you or your health care needs, that's the way it works today.

Oh, yes, I know. It was more of a symbolic gesture. A friend of mine asked me to do it, and I figured what the hell. My congressman is a conservative asshole; I expect no gain.

The fact that you got by without Obummercare before it became law proves you don't need it, you liar.

Previously, I could only get healthcare through my employer. If I had lost my job (which I later did), it would have cost me $2-3,000/month for the brand-name medications I was taking and the care I required (which I could not afford). Fortunately, Obamacare went into effect when it did, or I would have been in huge trouble. It's still not cheap, but it is affordable. The exclusion of preexisting conditions which existed previously was a disaster for millions of people. Many died. So don't be a schmuck and make declarative statements about shit you don't understand.

Solid response DQ...just to give you some hope I wrote my Congresswoman after the VA denied my claim due to my service connected disabilites getting exponentially worse...I was approved within a month...mind you this came before a two year appeal wait time...
Although I disagree with Obamacare ( and the current legislation) I hope you keep on it and get a satisfactory response.

Do you think Trump is proposing anything better than Obamacare? if so, can you please explain how/why?

By current legislation...I meant to say purposed... ala Trumpcare.

I think as long as one party is crafting the legislation it is doomed to fail. The ACA was the foot in the door DumpCare is attempting to cut the foot off with the door.

I am having a hard time finding concrete information on what the proposed replacement actually is, where would I find a description? I think Obamacare was horrible but don't know anything about the new plan, I do know that cleaning up the mess that was obamacare is going to be painful regardless of what the new model is, it destroyed confidence in the healthcare system and patient/doctor/provider relationships and demoralized doctors.

I don't have a source for this, but I did hear a snippet that the Trumpcare legislation is even more demoralizing to doctors, hospital administrators and staff, etc., than Obamacare ever was. Again, that's hearsay, but quite possibly true.

Is there a clearly written out description of the plan they are proposing anywhere? I have been under my parents insurance under obamacare, turning 26 this year and curious If I am going to get fined for not having insurance under the new plan. Seems important enough of a subject to get as clear of a picture of it as I can.
kinda irritated that I am 26 and have no idea how insurance works or how to get it because my government kept me on it's teat for so long.

You should be irritated that you now have to worry about it a lot more because of Trump.

All I know is the Government keeps getting bigger and bigger. They got healthcare under their control. This whole thing is a scam. The only reality I see is the government's slow takeover of everything.
Policies are being written by lawyers who profit off of chaos instead of engineer's attempting to create functional systems.

The simplest summary is that it shifts health care costs from the rich to the poor. A 64-year old earning $15,000 per year (for example) would see their premiums go up by about $5,800 per year, while the rich would see a corresponding drop.
