You guys think These on the left, the PE, are ready to shake? Those 3 have a whole plate of PE clone in each.
Also, the mature thing to do with my 5 TYC jars, instead of spawning those and g2ging one, G2G all the jars into more jars.
Every bit I have in the photo, I should plan to expand, if I'm trying to be smart and long term with this yes? This growth has happened quick. I was wanting some fruits soon, but if I just don't spawn the 4 TYC and G2G only one, I will have ALOT more product in a month, yeah?

I picked one cluster that had mostly opened caps. I tried the twist and pull but pulled a big chunk of substrate came with it. Thank you for all the help.
You can wait or you can harvest as ready. I don't think any are ready yet. As the caps expand and mature you'll notice a distinct colouration change from dark brown to a lighter tan colour. I generally try to avoid harvesting anything that hasn't changed colour yet because while the caps are still dark the shrooms are still growing very quickly. They don't grow much after the caps change colour and at that point letting them go longer isn't doing much.

I would shake them a not g2g them all just in case they aren't fully clean

I picked a mature mushroom from an old plate and put it to grain for fun. It looks like it bruised pink/red. I guess it absorbed the food coloring from the agar?

No offense man but your grain looks dirty. I think you should wash it well before sterilizing. You'll then see what's going on inside much better.

dont think that would be from lack of rinsing. I never rinse and have never had issues seeing into my jars. I think thats just grain moosh all over the walls. probably from burst grain and shaking it up. more appropriate would be to dial in spawn prep and dont let so many burst grains get through, dont shake so violently. hard to tell from just one image though regardless

It's definitely the grain prep. I had more burst than I wanted to because I got distracted while they were on the stove. I've gotta be more mindful in the future. Are burst grains super detrimental or are they just sticky and annoying to work with?

TL;DR at bottom
they arent super detrimental but youre basically rubbing bacteria/mold food all over your grains. i have had it happen a lot with no worries as long as your inoculant and sterile technique is good. I just would hope/aim for faster colonization/using asap

In my opinion grain prep is the singular most important part of being successful in mycology. people confuse the motion of cooking and loading grain and creating great spawn as the same thing. I dont use a timer and id recommend ditching one. So many variables go into it like how many times your stove heats per minute and how hot it is capable of getting, the volume of water, type of material pot is made of, how thick material is etc etc. also a rolling boil for X time doesnt do it well in my opinion either regardless of those variables being involved or not.
I think checking manually (thanks Tmethyl) is the best way to go. cook like food, think of like steak. dont gotta low cook it but cooking it as high of a temp as possible and getting it done asap isnt the goal. take your time and just cook it thoroughly through. you will know once its done by grabbing a few kernels and squishing them to check their moisture content. once theyre about the same level of cooked as youd like your rice, theyre good2go.
TL;DR, SPAWN IS IMPORTANT FUCK A TIMER CHECK MANUALLY Better to undercook than overcook grain imo

I was just going to spawn it to a shoebox, not looking to expand this whatsoever. Let's hope my sterile technique was good. The culture sat long enough to push out a huge fully mature mushroom with no metabolites so I think it's down to my technique in this instance. Thanks for the input Lobi, I'll be keeping a watchful eye on my grain prep from this point forward.

Can't believe it, the third flush from this jar. Just a handful of cvg to some g2g leftovers.
