Thanks for the clarification Alan. The rumor mill in the Northwest when I was learning made it out to be much more common. I love the fact that solid information is so readily availible to the public via this site.

Yes.  I bet John Allen has the newspaper clipping.

One of our members ate Galerina marginata around 2013 or so, he got sick but didn't die.  Moral of the story is if you have not slept in a few days and are high on MXE and god comes along and tells you to eat a mushroom, don't listen!

Yes all of the noobs think that hippies are dropping like flies from eating Galerina because all of the beginning mushroom hunting literature overstates the danger.  While it is true that deadly mushrooms can grow 1 cm from actives (I saw this happen in San Francisco), it turns out that to get poisoned you have to eat a lot of deadly mushrooms.    Hippies who are wondering if their Galerina marginata or Pholiotina filaris are active and eat 2 or 3 aren't going to notice anything other than placebo.

Some people found Pholiotina filaris group in wood chips in Monterey and contacted me both here and on Facebook about finding a possible new species of Pholiotina.  They said the high was awesome, very giggly.  They said they stained blue but I couldn't see any staining in the photos.  I think they were likely eating deadly mushrooms but not enough to get poisoned, but it is hard to tell for sure.  I am going to ask them to mail some to me.

I was poking around at one of the allenii patches I planted out in a woodland area, just to see how the myc was spreading....

....and I saw two small/medium size mushrooms growing, looks like they popped up 7 to 10 days ago if I had to guess  . They probably pinned & popped up during that last little chill and precip that we got, but right after that chill it was starting to get up into the 80s during the day .

Just thought I'd mention one of my allenii patches has pushed up a couple more fruits...though I know it's not unheard of for some patches to do so one last time late in the season like this .

I'm pretty new to the Mycology game,

I was up in the sierras camping and found these morels this past weekend!

Would this past couple nights of rain and dropping temps have caused anything to pop up around the SFB?

I know its out of season, but I'm just wishing I'm gonna stumble upon some beautiful patch of p. cyanescens. while running through my local redwood park. I've been using from this thread to learn what to look for.
