Fruiting using cork skin?

Has anybody tried this before? Will it grow on cork?
This a Marasmius species I found growing from dead wood sticks, so I figured I might induce fruiting if given the same surface texture it grows in nature. Corks are made from bark so I'm giving it a try.

What would be the advantage of growing on cork? If you're trying to grow a wood-loving species I imagine it'd be more practical to just grow from easily obtainable wood? Cork would be hard to hydrate as well. In fact....that would probably be a deal breaker.

It's because it doesn't fruit on sawdust, so I'm guessing it needs something more like its natural habitat. Because marasmiuses grows on bark and leaf, right? It's not exactly wood-loving. I'm hydrating the cork by soaking in water and putting the bottle in the autoclave, then use sterilized tweezers to take it out. It would be soaking wet but after a while it would evaporate or be absorbed into the mycelium.

Does cork even absorb water? The only way around that I think would be to grind the cork into dust and mix it with something

Slightly over time cork will absorb a little bit Not much though ever see a wine cork with more than a few millimeters of color/wine penetration into the cork? I haven't

FYI, the mycelium does grow on the surface of cork. http://imgur.com/vG2PteW However I'm not sure how deep it penetrates.
