I'm starting to get into g2g. I used to be against it cause I had such a hard time obtaining clean spawn (so I thought), but now I see the light. It seems to be a superior method.
Got some masters going at the moment. Gonna do my first proper g2g tomorrow.....

They are if you don't tighten them. I've got some unmodded lids from a grocery store on some grain jars currently. Pc'd without a problem. Don't tighten them!
I screwed the lids down until I felt resistance and then backed it of a half turn or so. If you're going the unmodded route try not to mess with the jars after you inoculate them.

The ones for canning jars are really meant for storage. You aren't really supposed to use them in a PC but I have before. They do warp a little over time.
The plastic autoclavable ones are dirt cheap from most cultivation sites

To find out if things can survive a PC you just have to check the type of plastic. PP5 is a type of polypropylene that can withstand the pressure and heat of our hobby. You can find that out on the lids themselves or the packages they come in. It'll say PP5 somewhere. But even so, sometimes it's good to check for opinions because some things suck regardless.
I also don't really shake after G2G anymore. I feel like I can usually tell by visual inspection and smell if they're fucked.

I have a feeling the ones off cultivation sites are out of a package of ball storage lids.

How about this. Could I take my 7 SFD lids, take the filters off, cut them in half, and turn them into 14, if I make the GE hole small enough to still be covered and buy silicone and make my own?

You could do this:

Like most of us. I sand down the lid a little, put silicone (doesn't matter what kind as long as it's 100%) under the sf and then seal around the top of the sfd with more silicone. I usually do that a couple hours before the pc cycle and let the pc cure the rest of the silicone, which it does without a problem.

Just try not to store them in high humidity places/low temperatures I had some slide off the silicone recently.
Right now I'm trying unmodified plastic lids Seems to work so far but I haven't even nocced them yet cuz I'm super sick just ball plastic storage lids from target (cheaper then Walmart)

So just don't cover the whole bottom of the disc with sillicone, leave filter where the hole is yeah?

I'm on that train too. I'll probably post my (good) results on pasty's easy lid tek thread in a week or so. So far so good, growth is starting from the li inoculation I made a few days ago.

Yeah, sorry. I put a light layer of silicone on the perimeter of the underside only, then center the sfd over my 1/4" hole, and then silicone around the outside edge's of the disc and slightly overlap the top to make a good seal. As long as you don't get any silicone directly over the hole in the lid you are good.
Edit: You may notice my sfd's are not in circles, this is because I create patterns that utilize the most amount of sfd material with the least amount of waste. So I get 7 filters out of a 90 mm disc.

Gravity is your friend in this case. I keep my jars in a walk in closet with little aerodynamic disturbance and as long as your tech is clean and you don't mess with the jars, there is little chance (imo) that you will see a contam. Contams are unlikely to defy gravity and float up through the lid band and into your jars, provided you don't have a lot of airflow in the room.
As far as li goes I just use a fully colonized 100mm plate (versus earlier when I used to cut out the colonized portions) in 300 ml of water pc'd with an unmodified loose lid. It's from munch's li tek but a little more concentrated for faster growth

Thats what I did. And my jars are in a walk in closet in the case they come in.
I followed munch's blenderless tek, my agar was very tough to break up, I gotta go softer. And, it was tough to break that seal at first.. using petri's its hard to get that whole puck out without leaving lids open too long in my SAB (also done in my walkin closet. )
I just gotta practice though. The fall just gets harder the better I get lol

ok back with another one
been getting ready for my FH build and just want some info on the plenum behind the filter...
Someone here said at least 6" and 1' was better.(I think)
What is optimal for my 3'x4'x6" filter?

The plenum should be at least the same depth as your filter, but a little more never hurt.
On my hood, my filter is 6 inches and I have a 12 inch plenum, but it's because my blower has a pretty big outlet so I had to make it big.

I like this! Never heard it before. You could bisect (or whatever ratio) the plate and skewer the pieces on the scalpel for the drop.
