Water quality?
    #24122197 - 02/26/17 08:52 PM (6 years, 10 months ago)

The water out of the tap doesn't taste good at all and it is treated with chlorine and chloramine by the city. Seeing the great yields that other growers get using tap water, it seems like a fancy filter might not be needed, but what about using rainwater? Would that make a difference?

I use fairly hard desert water, like 300-400 PPM of crap. works fine.

If you are in the south of the city you may want to for the lifespan of your foggers/fans etc- that shit is hella heavy and overtreated- it's actually a big point of contention politicallly there.

As long as your city doesn't have chloramine you can get away with leaving it out for a day before using it. I have hard water here too and I don't do anything special and don't have issues with the water.

Chloramine is much more of a bitch to remove cost effectively.

Hard water here, pH 8, lots of calcium and other, no problems.

I also use fairly hard water and haven't come across problems. I have always wondered what sort of benefit I would get, if any, from using filtered water. That goes for hydroponics as well. would be cool to see a side-by-side. I'm willing to bet the benefit would be negligible though

I would normally agree with everyone else on this thread- unless you live in the south of your city. Like about 10 steps behind Flint (I may be exaggerating a bit)- I mean that water stains shit, tastes awful, has high amounts of iron, fluoride (and no I'm not going conspiracy theory on you), calcium, and straight up rust in some places due to aging infrastructure- but they are still at "acceptable levels", which if I remember correctly was decided in the 80's- I'm trying not to get political on here  so I'll stop my rambling- but if you live anywhere other than south in your city, I agree with everyone else the results would be neglegible. :rantover:

Sorry for bumping, but I also noticed that our water quality has got worse. It seems that a waer filtration system is the only way out. What did you end up doing?

For sure, investing in a lead test kit is a wise decision because lead exposure can pose serious health risks. Ensuring the quality of the water we consume is crucial for our well-being, and it's not something to take lightly. Don't compromise when it comes to the safety of your environment. You can definitely find a decent option on amazon and it will get to you in couple of days only
