Candy caps?
    #24122167 - 02/26/17 08:38 PM (7 years, 1 month ago)

I found these mushrooms today in the Oakland area.  They were growing in mixed oak/redwood habitat, somewhat near a stream.  The stems are fairly brittle and hollow.  I didn't notice any liquid when I snapped them.  The smell is sweet, kind of like maple syrup, especially upon drying.  I think they might be candy caps, but I have a hard time telling apart Lactarius, so I am not sure.

It looks like it, but they don't look very fresh, I would not eat those ones.

Ah ok.  Perhaps I'll just keep them dried as an interesting fragrance.

The big one is much milder in scent and not as sweet.  Do you think it could be another species of Lactarius besides L. rubidus?
