Like I posted earlier... I loaded really wet.  Grains were wet after pc.  But then next day they were dry. They must absorb water while they're cooling, or something.  I've seen it 2 batches in a row now.

Zero, do you give them a post-PC shake? It helps to redistribute the water back into the grains evenly

I agree a good shake after the PC helps with water distribution.

Curious if that ever happened.

you mean the grain soak water as the nutrient source in the agar? It's been done, A LOT

Has anyone tried oats using this method ? I'm hating the boiling thing right now.

Ya. Soaked oats work fine just dry them thoroughly. I'd bring the soak water up to a boil and steam dry them.

Great, I've got a bucket soaking right now, it'll be a 48 hour soak just because of circumstances. Will work out really well cause my pot can hold the same amount as the bucket lol.

Sometimes I wonder if I should put them in a salad spinner to dry faster.. but I'm lazy.

I would leave them out drying over night but I'm worried about vermin thinking it's a buffet.

So I have milo soaking that I started last night around maybe 10PM. It hasn't swollen much, but I think I might try straining some now and loading wet like you explain for this WBS tek and see how that works out. Start with just 16pints as a test.

Wbs doesn't expand much with a 23 hour soak, in my experience. It does swell in the pc a bit though.

oops. typo. I kind of want to do a test in a clear container and see how long you'd have to soak at what temperature to achieve roughly 50% expansion with wbs. Or if it just won't happen. I know mine doesn't swell too much when soaking or cooking.

I'm wondering if there's a way we could put the top of a dehydrator and low temp on a bucket of (drained) grains and have the drying process really speed up ? obviously there'd be an issue with depth of grains and the air not penetrating. But if it was either stirred by hand or mechanically, maybe in like 30 minutes or less they'd be good to go for loading and pc'ing ? The steam thing is ok, but creating that damp atmosphere can't be good for some people's setups / homes (like mine, lol)

Where do you think the moisture is going to go using a dehydrator?

I guess it's a nit picky thing, but I was thinking dense steam rising to the same spot vs cold wet grains being dried and the air being more.. distributed ? I guess its the same volume, just a personal preference. Plus it could be setup anywhere or vented out a window maybe. This is assuming you are doing bulk amounts, like 3 PCs full every few days.
