This was growing off an old fallen tree coveted in moss. Spore print was a golden amber color. Any ideas?

It is not Galerina or Hypholoma, maybe Gymnopilus but I don't know for sure.

And not trying to bash anyone but myself but if a TI told me gymnopilus when I first posted these, I would've eaten them. Phew

Well they certainly aren't Galerina, the cap would have an entirely different  aparent texture to it & the spores wouldn't be anything close to "a golden Amber color..." However those features do point to Gymnopilus.

Now That I see this (I am assuming these are the same species, just more mature, or that is what you believe at least?) Those pictures are pretty much cinched any remaining doubt in my mind, although I would like to see some closer up pictures, as well as a spore print, before I would feel comfortable telling any novice mushroom pickers a definite ID.

I mean no offense guys, but are you even looking at the same pictures that I am?
What exactly are these traits you see on these mushrooms that rule out Gymnopilus?

I don't see a veil, but they do remind me of gymnopilus, at least the newer pictures do.

Well they all clearly have scaly caps, although in the younger specimens it is more fibrillose, which is what you would expect to see. Gymnopilus species can be a varity of shades, from a pale tan-ish color to purple.

If these don't look like what you are calling Gymnopilus, you are calling the wrong mushrooms Gymnopilus. I am about convinced that you are just trolling here.

In this thread Alan reckons they are close to Pholiota spumosa, so I'm going to defer to him on this one.
