Cubensis look alike?
    #2407466 - 03/08/04 02:14 PM (20 years, 1 month ago)

Alright ive been researching cubes because i have found a feild that has been rumored to have them.

2 days after it has rained i head to the feild and what do you know, a whole lot of what look to be Cubensis.

They exsist only on the cow shit.
Nipple shape.
Light brown to white fade.

I know this isnt enough to classify them by, but i had a question. If these are indeed Cubensis, why didnt they bruise blue at all?

The farmer girl said that her friends had eaten those exact same shrooms from that EXACT same feild and were tripping.

Im totaly stumped, Ive been pouring through pictures and cant find any non active mushrooms or posionus mushrooms that even similar.

Id blow this off as just some random mushroom thats non active but too many arrows point to active.

Just because it doesnt turn blue does that mean its not active?

Snapping the stem in half didnt reveal anything either, caps were dark brown to black on the under side.

My texas feild guide is still in the mail.

thanks for the help.

Yeah, definately take a spore print.

It sounds to me like your not finding Cubensis though.
-You might be finding a Agaricus species possibly.

I've found Agaricus before that look a whole lot like Cubes.

YEs either Agaricus or he is picking Storpharia's some of which do resemble P. cubensis.

However, I am positive he does ho not have an active cube.

And please do not eat any w shr0oms just because your friends say they atre them. Make sure you know what you are ingesting.

I'll try to post a picture of some look-a-likes that i found in a horse pasture up in live-oak florida.

I'll post them here when i get the chance.

I've found a few different varieties that look like Cubes.
-The ones i found in Gaineville field were so-so close to looking like cubes (but they didn't blue and the veil was black and not dark-purple). And i also found a few Cubes in the same area of that field, so, keep yur head up shroomers, identify them all..

Hey man, you probably had a Stropharia or Agaricus look-a-like like the other guys said, but the people might have actually found some cubensis, and think your look-a-like is one.

Resurrection

I found something exactly like this today. I found this picture trying to figure out what it is. Definitely not cubes but the mushrooms I found were dry and had the same odor as cubes.

Does anyone know what it is?

I googled "brownish Agaricus" and found some similar pictures. Could be. I have never seen these before. Usually see a white Agaricus type around here.

Thanks
