No. It's Coprinellus, or Coprinopsis, or one of the Copri-others. Calling them "inky caps" is a short-hand way of saying they're a species from one of those closely-related genus.

see how the older ones are 'melting'?  they 'deliquesce' which essentially means they auto-digest, turning into an inky black, spore-filled goo which is their method of spore dispersal.  pretty cool.

some people like a few of the different species for the table, but you have to get them young and cook them fresh or they begin that Auto-digestion which makes them pretty inedible.  I think one preferred method is to bread and fry the caps, IIRC.  at least one of the species has a chemical which mimics the effects of the Antabuse drug they give some alcoholics to prevent them from imbibing.  another cool and interesting fungus that's often overlooked by people as an edible.

Don't have them with a beer then! Interesting stuff.

i think it's only one or two species in the couple of related genus that have that chemical.  i've only collected Coprinus comatus and Coprinellus micaceus for food and neither of those have said nasty chemical.
