Those are some nice grows. I am going to have to try this. Seems like it may take some time to figure everything out. If its ok I will hit you up as soon as I get some blocks germinating in a few oven bags. I'm on grain right now so give me about two weeks and then I will spawn the bags and start on the mini green house.

Thanks.

Thank You! This also means the LC's I made are not contaminated, well, not apparently contaminated.

Honestly I can't remember how thick Aegerita is supposed to look, and I can't tell much from those pics they're a little blurry and I can't see much.  My guess is they're probably fine though.

Lion's mane I do for sure remember - if you haven't grown it before, you will almost ALWAYS think it's cobweb while it's colonizing.  It never gets thick and solid white like other species, and in fact will often start pinning in the jar before it even looks the slightest bit thick.

A lot of people run into issues because they're waiting for it to "thicken up", and it will pin inside the jar before it does that.  So spawn just a bit sooner than you think you should.  Hopefully it will look fully colonized, but it may be really hard to tell.  If you do get pins before spawning, it's usually ok and you can spawn anyway, but with some practice you gotta learn to spawn RIGHT before they pin in the jar.

Lion's mane mycelium is extremely thin and whispy, probably nothing like most of what you've grown, and takes a bit of experience to get used to.  Even in bags it will often start fruiting before it looks (or is?) fully colonized.  If it does that, just cut small holes or x's where the fruits are and let them grow out of the holes.  Only 2-3 per bag I would recommend.  And wrap the bag really tight (almost airtight if it was possible) around the substrate, and tape it down.  Otherwise the lion's mane will top fruit and just fill your bag with crappy quality fruit that looks nothing like the nice puffballs you're used to seeing.

That is a pretty sweet grow. How big was the jar you fruited in? Kinda hard to tell from the pics.

Looks fine.

IME they need to grow over the grains before whitening up. So they grow greyish fastly, when they finished colonising I allways give them a 5 day resting (@ 24 C°) to get the superwhite look. Then they can go to the substrate/G2G/whatever you intend to do.

What is the next step, I hope you publish the final results here

Peace
M

I already started the next step. Took Pics and need to update. Didn't have filter bags so I made my own out of oven bags. It works for shiitake, but we will see for the Poplar. The myc did turn super white, but prolly could have used a few extra days. Will know for next time. I will update asap.

That Jar looked pretty good. I might try that too.

I found that mine went white but not like oyster does and gets that marsh mellow look. Also much easier to break up the grain.

Believe it or not I have already read your thread. You have your shit together, no lie. The problem I am having is they don't sell the old Martha Closet anymore. The only ones I could find are really reviewed like garbage from the posted reviews. Do you know any good martha type closets for sale anywhere?

This is what I use. It's called a 4 tier greenhouse and you can get them really cheap on ebay. Shelves probably aren't the strongest. So far so good though.

That thing looks freakn sweet. Lots of space too. Do you have a link? Also, looks like you have humidity hooked up. Does that come with it or did you self create a system? Like TravelAgency. She/he has a nice set up from what I can tell.

Those things work great, but don't last long.  One good year, maybe two if you're lucky.  After that the cheap shelving starts to rust and mine got an un-cleanable "film" of some sort on the clear plastic, nothing would take it off.

For the price though, it's worth it - just toss it and buy a new one for $30

I was surprised how much the shelves on mine did hold without collapsing, I had like 10 species fruiting in there at the same time at one point, don't remember how many bags total.

But they do have a limit - I think it was a member named Amanita Virosa? that posted a pic of one he loaded up with bags for colonizing, and it completely collapsed.  Disaster!

Here is an update of my Grow on this thread. Mycobags are in the mail, so the spawn that was ready had to go to the ole trusty Reynolds oven bag "Muffler Tek".

These were the original LC jars that I was worried about in the beginning having Cob Web. They turned out fine and they were ready to go to the oven bags.

I am not going to go into the specifics of the "Muffler Tek" because this is suppose to be a grow log of sorts. But if anyone would like to know how I do it just ask. I have been highly successful with Shiitake mushrooms with this tek. The AA strain is a first so I have no idea how this is going to work out. I am worried because the addition of Bran, which was not in the Shiitake Sub recipe makes the Contam rate higher, so they may fail, but ya gotta try to find out.

One with Oak wood shavings, Wheat Bran, and water, The Other was the same recipe but with maple saw dust added to see if it would make a difference. The Sub was mixed and put in the oven bags. The bags were PC'd carfully because they will have holes burnt in them if not done right. These bags cooled and were ready for spawn and a muffler.

Clean the jars and shake them up.

In the bag they go. Carefully and hopefully remaining sterile.

Throw a muffler on it. Stuffed with polyfill of course and fully sterilized.

Gotta put them in something so they have a shape. I used an old porta cooler and a pot for the other one.

Two bags with "Muffler" filters. Time to let them sit for a few weeks under my bed or in a closet.

These are the Rye Grain jars inoc'd with agar wedges. Moving slow but still moving. I didn't shake them because I wanted to see the colonization rate compared with crack corn. These jar still have a another week or so until they are ready.

This is the crack corn I inoculated with an LC. It colonized faster then the Rye Grain by 3 times. LC and crack corn together. You can't get much faster colonization rates then with these two combined, unless your into slurry innoculations, which I have shy'd away from. These will be ready to go into Myco bags or "Muffler Tek'd" in about a week.

I will update when I put these in myco or oven bags. Thanks for reading. Wouldn't make any sense to do a grow log if no one was going to read it. :dancer:

If you buy one now or the bigger ones they don't last lf you use them. But in the fall I get them 80% off at big lots stock up then get little ones for 7 bucks and big 12 shelf ones for 16 bucks. For the mold film that covers the plastic use paint thinner its the only thing that works

No I built the greenhouse controller myself using an arduino micro controller. It controls lighting, humidity, temp, and the pump for the misters. I'm still dialling it in atm and I will make a post once everything is working well.

I'm sure with a bit a reinforcement you could make those greenhouses survive.

I'm not familiar with that tek but how are you keeping it sterile with those cardboard roles.
