that easy to put a prefilter eh?  just duct tape it on?  I guess I should tape a prefilter on my hood before I clog it up with coir dust

That's not exactly gonna create a nice seal.. it will still let large particulate pass into the hepa degrading its life. if u have a prefilter housing setup u can use a nice 3m superallergen furnace filter for a prefilter which will make your hepa last way longer.

Also it appears that the lighter flame could be bent over more imo. Perhaps play with your fan setting. Not saying that setting won't work by any means however.

Nice build

Yup that easy. Is yours a dual inlet? Mine is so I closed off one side almost completely
and just taped the filter on over the other inlet. I could build a box to go over the blower
but I really don't feel like it's necessary.

I could build a filter housing though that goes over the inlet and allows me to just slide
a filter in place over the hole vs. having to tape it on :strokebeard:

I have seen plenty of builds with the filter taped over the inlet, but you're right it
could be better.

60-90 degrees is what I have seen everywhere as far as flame angle, I'd call that 60 degrees
but more doesn't hurt too much. I have it on a variable speed controller so it literally
takes nothing to dial it up. Thanks for the notes man

I am not using any sort of filter at all currently.  Am I really shooting myself in the foot?  Like is it going to clog up in a couple months of use or is going to take 10 years before I have a problem...  cause if it's in the ten year time-span I don't really feel it's worth the effort.  Obviously depends on how much dust is in the air...

I just can't imagine my filter ever getting "clogged" so I don't see the need, but if anyone has anecdotal evidence I'm all ears.

It's not just about clogging it, it's also about debris damaging the back of the filter. It
will just generally increase the life of your filter, but I guess it isn't 100% necessary:shrug:

But then again, it only took like 5 minutes to tape the filter on so why not just do it for
peace of mind?

To be honest if you are going to build a flowhood why not do it right? You're already making a big commitment, why not make it the best you can?
