From my understanding, they are becoming more and more common on the west coast. I have seen pics of some extensive patches from the bay. Thusfar they have mostly all been in typical woodlover habitat on the west coast. I'm hoping to find some this yr so I can start some patches near where i am in LA. Naturalized patches have been found in SoCal - based on posts on this site - but I have yet to find any. Saralove posted a pic in the photography thread of a couple she already found this year in SoCal and has lots of shots from last spring. They seem to be an extremely vigorous and adaptable species.

Right on, thanks for the bits of info.

I too have heard about ovoids having some good vigor and being able to adapt and spread about rather quickly.

Over towards the east coast/eastern part of the US, ovoids can be found within riparian habitats, right?

I'd love to find me some ovoids to get some spawn going so I can introduce the fungus to some of the natural riparian habitats around northern California...Like mentioned, I have already placed some allenii spawn out in some riparian/oak woodland habitats and the mycelium is thriving/spreading & fruiting just fine all on it's own with out any irrigation through out the year....So I can only imagine how well ovoids would do in the same habitat.

If all goes as planned, over the next decade+ or so, several active psilocybe species will be growing among the riparian habitats around my part of the state :uptosomething: .

up In the PNW, Some believe the ovoids vigor will push out the other wood lovers. Something to think about before you go to crazy spreading them. Just think, Fruiting in the spring and fall means they will eat all the wood and take over a habitat real quick. I personally wouldn't trade cyans potency for ovoids abundance. If one cant find enough cyans, alleni, azure to last all year, they should sharpen there hunting skills. Strictly my opinion, not trying to offend any one.

Down here woodlovers are restricted (almost exclusively) to urban habitats, and it would be pretty cool to change that. If ovoids favor riparian zones more than others then I welcome them. I don't think they will outcompete allenii (which are most common here) in the urban areas anyway.

Edit: By down here I mean in the central valley

Hi,
In the bay area for the weekend and it's only my second time here. I'm in the East Bay now and conditions like this would have me hunting in various known or hopeful woodlover haunts back east. I thought there was a sentiment on this board that 16/17 season was over - i'm just wondering if that sentiment has changed among resident hunters.  And so far what I've seen is a big chunky Lactatius (stem Diana  > 1") and a significant flush of what looked like colts under 3-needle pine, nothing to speak of in the wood chip beds  - Regardless this is a beautiful place – enjoy and thank you in advance for any public or private tips or opinions.

I've heard that about ovoids before too, specifically coming from fellas in the PNW . And up there I can totally see why one should take it easy when it comes to spreading ovoids about.

But basically what Ran-D said....Down hear (nor-cal, bay area) I never hear about any sort of active psilocybe being found in "natural" habitats, they're only found in urban areas/landscaping....

....and riparian habitats seem like the absolutely ideal/perfect habitat for these woodlovers, so I have plans to introduce allenii, cyans, and hopefully ovoids (and maybe even azures if I can acquire a print) to these these habitats around my area (I'm also in the central valley, not the bay). I have no doubt the patches will take hold, but I have hopes that in the long term of things they'll spread about and become a permanent resident in some of the areas that I place em'.

We're def on the very tail end of things as far as active go....

...still hearing occasional reports of some finds, but they're far & few between. All of my known patches appear to be completely done for the season.

There is still a lot of cool fungus out there fruiting though!

Who is to say.

I'd like to know how to judge potency.

Like weed is weed but you can clearly smell which one is more dank than the next. More potent.

With shrooms though there really is no way to smell it out :p.

I got into microdosing for a bit.

Awhile back I found this new patch that was on near brand new woodchips.. And i take one small cap. And WHEWWHEEW. Potent. I barely held it together at work.

That whole patch became head stash shit.

Way to many factors to consider when trying to gauge potency. Your mind and thoughts alone can easily counter the effects and make you not trip.
