EU supplies thread 1
#24079425 - 02/10/17 11:20 AM (7 years, 11 months ago) |
|
|
This tread is to serve as an addendum to the UK supplies thread by Base Icks.
The purpose of this thread is to serve members of the EU, and Europe as a whole, the best sources for mycology supplies within the EU, to save on shipping and handling costs. I, myself, have started compiling a list of online sources for the EU (and WW) in my journal, but I will not copy the contents to this thread. If I did, I would have to update both lists all the time. Thus, I will save a hyperlink to my journal thread here.
Feel free to share sources from any European country, even if the source doesn't ship to the entirety of Europe. People browsing this thread will benefit from it.
I hope this thread is useful for us Europeans. Share away!

How many jars this presto holds? the price is very good, but the shipping is killer - almost 60eur or is it normal to EU?

You have to think about the fact how monstrously big and heavy this pressure canner is and how heavy it would be to ship to the EU. You also need to pay 21% VAT on the pressure cooker. In the US you pay around 70$ but I ended up with 150 euro. I don't regret it at all, though, it's wonderful. It holds 10 Qt jars or 9 L jars.

Only for orders >100$ without shipping, handling and taxes.
The Hawkings Big Boy look good, reach 15 psi, but the Presto 23 Qt is the same price, can't beat it IMO. But a good option if you want to buy locally, I've seen those around at the black market actually.

Good initiative Tiamo!
Here in the EU, especially where I'm from, equipment is a lot more expensive than what the americans needs to pay.
I found it very hard to find glass jars, at a reasonable price, for g2g, and what worked for me was that I checked out local bee keeper stores, and other niches that could be similar when it comes to equipment, that sell stuff in bulk.
That way I found wide mouth 1L glass jars cheaper than the local pp5's.
One problem I've come across searching for stuff is that i search in English and not all websites around EU gets listed in google searches when not searched in their native languages.
Perhaps a glossary with german, dutch, spanish, polish, etc. words, could be beneficial for us looking on the internet for cheap shipping prices.

Another european here
Not much into growing but I buy my stuff at gluckspilze.com
Can't say anything about prices because I buy only spores mostly but they seems pretty good at shrooms
One question I'd like to ask: has anybody ever tried NL free spore ring?
I sent 2 or 3 letters but never received any spore print, at least I got my shirt

I've received multiple spore prints from www.fsre.nl and they were always quality. Real great stuff for just 2 euro! If you aren't receiving you haven't followed their instructions right.

I still get spores from the US as its cheaper, and good quality and they usually throw in a free one for shroomery members, they also come quick enough. Many EU places have high postage costs. I got plastic petris on ebay from China extremely cheap, it would have cost me far more to post the same package to my next door neighbour than the total price I paid including shipping.
I was meaning to ask a local cafe and a takeaway for any large empty catering jars, some would be happy to be rid of them. It is often cheaper to buy plastic or glass jars with food/stuff in them. In my work people get microwave soup in good PP 500-600ml tapered containers, I could get about 4-5 a week if I bothered.
You might get stuff in jars you would not eat a lot of, but it could be gotten rid of somewhere, like tubs of sweets for a kids party, or bringing catering jars to a homeless food kitchen. Passata jars/bottles are quite tall and can fit well in some small PCs. Some might not even have considered them as they seem more like bottles, but have wide mouths

I have seen AA pcs selling secondhand in my country, AA's cannot be sold in the EU as they do not comply with pressure regulations, I think some member possibly had one seized as they tried to import it.
Some place should really sell kits with the likes of filters, injection ports, scalpels, syringes, needles etc, stuff which is really cheap in bulk, but very expensive if buying in small amounts from numerous different places (so paying mulitple postage costs).

I have used them several times, but not recently. The last update on the site was a while ago, so he could be off somewhere. Maybe others can say if they got stuff recently.

Brewery stores have cheap jars for making jam/jelly. I get my 250ml jars for 30 cents and 1 L jars for 75, including lids. They also have malt extract, dextrose and even Petri dishes sometimes.
I also have a Chinese grocery store I get agar agar from and they have cheap PP5 takeaway containers for trays.
Cake supplies stores also have agar agar.

Following this - actually in Germany you can get a lot of stuff very cheap. The "american products" are very expensive here, but you can substitute them with german stuff that also works fine.
Petris, Gypsum, Coir, Verm, Rye, Micropore, Agar Agar I can get locally at stores and the pharmacy.
Jars and Lids I order at glaeserundflaschen.de
Totes for Monos I buy at Bauhaus, they are very cheap and very good - available in all sizes from Mini to Mega Monos

The store "Action" is also very good for totes for monos, trays, whatever. I think that store is in a lot of countries in the EU.

That would be me, but it was a sterilizer that got seized.
It's true AA pc's are technically prohibited here, them bitches are jelly they're so good, but you can buy an AA on Ebay under the "international priority shipping" program that is carried out by 'Pitney Bowes' who will change the harmonized code of a restricted article if need be, that is under your name, so if something should go south the one that gets fucked good is you, but never happens apparently, they know what they're doing (I hope)
Anyway guys suck it up, we have everything shitty here for this hobby: shitty jars, shitty filters, pcs, tubs, difficulties to find coir, iso alcohol and you know all too well the list goes on and on forever...
Folks from the land of freedom have all the cool things for this hobby but on the other hand they get raped good if they get caught, so it's only fair that they should have cool things, all is in perfect equilibrium.
I prefer to order stuff from the USA, the good stuff they have, invest some money on gear that lasts even though I work hard to earn every euro, but it's an initial investment that you only need to make once

I imported my AA from America. no problem getting it here, but did have to pay some import charges. bags I get from SacO2, they do not sell under 100 pcs however. Perlite and Vermiculite can be found in stores that sell construction materials like gravel and stuff. I've used the passata bottles as well, work like a charm. mono's I get from ikea, they're dirt cheap over there. especially the mini mono's. coir you can get easily in every garden centre being sold as potting soil.

Potting soil isn't the same as coco coir. (Unless it says "100% kokosgrond" on it somewhere) Its main ingredient is probably peat moss ("turf" or "turfstrooisel") imported from Siberia with additives.

I know what you mean, but shops like aveve sell it as potting soil, even though it's just coir. it's always in the potting soil department anyway.

No they do orders from 100 bags and upwards, they're a little more pricey though. They also do Microboxes which are polypropylene (autoclavable) boxes with the same filter in. you can only buy them by the box though.
Every single growkit I've seen so far has all been grown in these Microboxes.

You get less quality for double the price on pressure cookers, it's fucked up alright. Salaries are pretty much the same here than in the states I think.

2,35 a gallon?? cheap!
Electric can run up to 250 too here but only if you are really wasteful, or have a big home, or lots of appliances, or if you heat your home on electricity. Or if your a real foodie and only have an electric plate, and electric oven...

I was recently trying to buy an autoclave or pc online the usual (eBuy, AmIzoned) places, but despite winning bids, and finding places that would deliver, EVERY time was cancelled... I looked around and saw a lot of, well, basically shit product from the UK, EU , Turkey, and India that was substandard, in terms of pressure.
I want AT LEAST 15 PSI and up... I mean actual STERILIZATION. Clean grain, endospore killedl, and STERILE (abso-f'n-lutely) instruments. If I "dance badly" I don't want to use "bad shoes" as an excuse.
I found a brand "UTEHO" from Ukraine, with quite a few distributors in the Baltics and Poland. They have a few different production lines, based on the metal they make them out of, the type of heating you will be able to use, or even integrated heating, different seal configurations, thermostats (or not) and even installed drains for HUGE batches.
Their website is autoclav(dot)com(dot)ua... it's in Russian and Ukrainian, but not English. The prices on their site are considerably cheaper than distributors., with import VAT and all. Their budget line starts from around 125 euro, and they have about a dozen models of varying specs for less than 200euro. If you want "the full Monty", with water cooling for about 2000, imported.
I used to have a big Presto, and loved it, but it was one thing I couldn't take with me from the US to the EU. I folded and figured I'd try one of these, and I got a stainless one with a thermostat. Going up to 5 atm safely, it's something definitely "lab worthy", and it is impressive. At around 375 Euro, yes, it was pricey, but it's too easy to use with a thermostat and timer, that the time I save not having to hover over the auto clave give me c9ountless other hours for doing lots of the nothing I love.
They do have great service, but the manual comes in Russian or Ukrainian... they will email you an English one, but it's as shaky as shit.
You can find EU distributors by googilling "UTEHO", or if you're speaking Ukrainian or Russian, you can try to contact them through the Ukrainian site.
