maybe some PE cultures. I would just opt to find genetics that don't need casing layers to get desired performance

Hey bod do you happen to have any threads where you birth BRF cakes, clean them, put in ziploc, crush it up and use it for spawning with Verm inside trays? I've seen something about it before but I think that would be interesting. I'm thinking of taking one of my cakes once fully colonized and testing this but since I'm a noob I'm skeptical I'm just gunna waste a cake for being curious. Anyways just thought I'd drop a thought!

No, if I did a pf tek it would be fruiting them in the jars with ziploc bag fruiting tents

I'm gunna check into that because my jars are probably 85-90 percent colonized and I see a sign of two tiny little mushrooms pressing up against the glass in one jar. I heard this can be a sign of contam but everything looks so healthy... I don't know. Should I wait til they are completely covered then knock off pins or little mushrooms and dunk before placing in my SGFC? And also are pins you take off during birth edible? Thx for the feedback. These are golden teachers if that makes any difference

You can leave them on or take them off and of course they're edible.

You should make threads or ask in the question and answer threads, not that I mind you asking here. The list of threads is in my links in my signature or in my journal or by search

Hey guys. Sorry if this is off topic. I have been trying to find a thread that isn't ages old talking about coir only substrates. I read that coir doesn't have much nutritional value so my mixture is 1:3 BRF:coir. Has anyone tried this before. For some reason I had a hard time finding verm or I would have followed the pf tek word for word. Has anyone tried a coir and brf only mixture with any success? This is just an experiment but I am hoping it works because I only have 1cc of my syringe left and no LC's coming out without smell or cloudiness and no other spores or anything to work with :'(. Hoping to hear back something positive. All of my endeavors have failed so far. I have tried the popcorn tek and it would be either too dry or too wet and then eventually molded anyways after I finally seen myc growth in it. Thanks in advance and please excuse my noobness. I am trying to learn. That is why I am here.

Looking for prints for the Oak Ridge strain. I live nearby but can't find any. I would love to see these locals make a come back. I will have B+ to trade soon!

Do you have a pressure cooker?
It you live in the USA you can order vermiculite. Or go to any hardware store and get it or have them order it.

I haven't seen coir cakes with the vermiculite substituted but I've seen people talk about them.

I would get a pressure cooker

Yeah I am using the PC. I am lucky enough to have 3 including an electric one. I am not sure where my contams are coming into play. I just made a possibly dumb move and grabbed a few myc coated popcorn kernals out of another jar before the contam hit them and went ahead and and put it in this coir/brf mixture I ran thru the PC and I am already seeing whiter and thicker growth from just around 10 hours ago. Right now I am just winging it. Expecting the worst and hoping for the best.
My last LC attempt was with organic honey. I put the honey into boiling water, put the mix into a jar and PC'd. Let cool and noc'd with syringe. Day later and everything is settled, looks like tiny white particles in it. I thought this was myc growth. 2 weeks later, more sediment and a sour smell. I read on here that org honey was better than karo but karo is a clearer LC so you can see contams better. On another forum I read that sugar in the raw was clear like karo with better nutes but I haven't tried this method yet.

Using spores to make a LC will fail more often than not. Agar is a prerequisite for LC

I get coir in 5 kg bricks at the local hydroponics store. I use ot for more than mushrooms. When I make bulk I cut the brick on a band saw into five equal portions, use 1 of those and toss in an even amount of verm, a cup of gypsum and use Bods bucket tek!!

Gave this a go and moisture content was spot on (I used a little bit of verm)

Very cool.
