So that's exactly 50/50 coir verm And your spawn to substrate ratio is basically 1:2

Another easy AF TEK. I don't get why people ask stupid questions in your TEKs, did they not read??

Hey, what is the optimal spawn to coir ratio? I see in ur video you're using 7qts to 650g brick, yet some ppl go 5 qts to a 650 brick. What's the best ratio from your experience. I'm tryin to maybe scale things down a bit to using smaller trays, with about 2 qts of spawn in each, so would 1/3 brick be good for that sort of thing?

There is no optimum. A range of ratios works.

word, thx. also, u got any experience with coco coir that's not in brick form? I got a big bag of some 'premium coco coir' thats already broken up, and semi hydrated. I read that it maybe more prone to contams than bricks..

Doubt it. Just harder to get to field capacity without checking it
Ive used 3-10 q of spawn per brick. I like 5-7

So i expanded some coir yesterday, found a couple rocks in it. Was pretty weird, but took them out (there were 2 in the brick). Otherwise its good coir, ive used it before. But is this a reason to switch brands? Its said to be organic coir

Thunder Acres or something. Def seems very much like its straight from the farm
Well, good to know, thanks. I guess stuff gets stuck in them cause like you say, seems like very little oversight etc

Sorry guys, I'm still figuring this site and forums out in general using my cell phone. Yes, this was initially 50% coir/50% verm, however, I added more coir a couple days after my last post/picture. Is this salvageable? I'm thinking of putting more coir in and mixing it up to connect the mycelium?? Or is this contaminated? It looks like there is a lot of pure white mycelium on top and around slightly grey growth.

How many days has it been doing the spawn run?
Either way, i wouldnt try to salvage it, but how old is this substrate?

never add more food during colonization, it adds time and more time makes the contam window larger. and deff dont mix it up after its colonizing, its not a jar. dont touch it during colonization for 10-14 days..
but that looks contamed and you dont salvage contamed substrates. not worth the risk of contaminating future projects.

Never try to fix a tub by adding more substrate or spawn or remixing.

To me it looks like the substrate is a little packed down in areas. Did u flatten it out and make press it down a lil? That can fuck things up severely. U want it fluffy, with a level surface.

First I would just like to say this is a really great idea. A terrific evolution of the original concept. I understand the pasteurization takes place while the temp is between 60-70 c how long does this temperature need to be applied and then how important is it to drop the temperature to usable temp ? As in food handling dropping the temp after cooking extends the self life of refrigerated food items by quite a bit. Obviously the sub will not be refrigerated but just wondering if anyone has experience in this process ie pasteurizing then cooling quickly or not cooling(just allowing the temp to dissipate over time in the insulated container.) Just thought I'd ask before experimenting on my own.

I always let mine cool overnite while I sleep and spawn in the am when its been at room temp . it just has to be cool enough that it wont harm your myc when you spawn to it.
its coir so the pasteurization process isnt important like it is with manure based substrates that require proper pasteurization.
Proper Pasteurization of Substrates

Im running some tubs now and pasteurization is not neccesary. I just used boiling water, 5 quarts or so for a brick. Each quart prolly cooked it a little more. Works great, and i used to do pasteurization cause i would think id fuck it up otherwise. Im finally stopped doing that.
The bag method works great when you dont wanna dub a minitub, really is awesome. However, i dunno if its my house and lack of air circulation but without a fan they became like this

I couldnt see that they were suffering from low FAE and i read the guide and believed the 24/7 FAE thing. So always run a fan or at least check FAE. i left the tub open overnight with the fan still blowing intermittently and the flush looked alot better. The next one should be perfect from the looks of it. No more weird myc-shrooms.
But yeah, please take my experience into account. (Also there were small holes in the bag where the tub opening is, and a loose fit, just no circulating air)
Ah crap thought this was the "easy AF bodhi bag" thread. Oh well, close enough
