If you think about the math for calculating surface area vs volume you know that the rounder the object the greater the ratio of volume to surface area; hence for keeping things warm longer a cylindrical cooler is best. Likewise the larger the object the greater the volume to surface area ratio; so a bigger cooler with more ingredients at once is ideal for maintaining high temperature. So I decided to go big to maximize the heat break-down of the coir.
I pack the 10gal cooler with 2000grams coir, 2 qt verm, and a cup of gypsum. I pour 3 gallons boiling water in.
It takes forever to cool down... 24 hours later it is still hot enough to burn your hands. 3 days and it's still warm but cool enough to use.
My coir comes out smelling like molasses and it's nearly black.
I don't know if this actually creates better BE or not, has anyone done a side by side of super-cooked vs slightly cooked coir?
Couldn't you just use a pressure cooker to hydrate your coir 1 brick or 650g?

I mean just as a container not actually pressure cook it.

bod and crew, what is the best/cheapest source for coir? i see chewy has some options--would this work? they claim the bricks make 8 qts, (3 8qt bricks for $5.99) not sure how that compares to the 650g bricks shroomsupply sells.

Thank you for all the videos and teks. I did not know you can do bulk substrate this easily. I will change my plans of using horse poo compost/vermiculite/coco and use only coco/vermiculite as my pasteurization did not go wery well. I did heat it too much. I want to try it again after some time but now I need quick and easy way to bulk.

How clean does the bucket or cooler need to be when using it? Will a simple wash with some diluted bleach water do? Also, has anyone tried putting two bricks in a bucket at once? Would two bricks fit when fully hydrated?

Well it should be put away clean anyway... But no you don't need to bleach it. If it's so gross you need to bleach it toss it and buy a new cooler then never put it away that gross again.
If you put two bricks into a 5 gal cooler it will explode

TL;DR, but I just wanted to add that if you want to do a shitload of sub at once, 2 or 3 big-ass tubs stacked together insulate pretty well, especially covered in a towel or 2. I was able to run 5 bricks at once in a big tub.

I used a 5 gallon cooler just like the one you use in the TEK...I then PRE-preheated it with hot tap water and kept it half full with hot tap water, lid on, while I boil the "real" preheat water...commence to follow the TEK to the T (including how to preheat)...1brick coir, 4 qts boiling water, etc...then I wrap my cooler in a blanket put a pillow on top and set the cooler on an insulated mat ...5 hours later my coir temp is still 150 degrees. Just thought I'd throw that out there for anyone who really likes their coir "cooked"/kept at high temps longer.
Update: almost 11 hours after I did the TEK, the coir is at 120 degrees Fahrenheit Update 2: after 25 hours 99 degrees Fahrenheit

Make sure that Yeti cooler is gonna be used for coir from this point on because my cooler smells like coir permanently now no matter what I wash it with. I know Yeti coolers are expensive, so just a heads up

I'd go buy a $20 cooler just for this. But I doubt that will hurt any food as long as there's no particulate left. Have you tried lemon juice or vinegar to clean it?
Also, leave it open for a while, maybe a few weeks. I bet it'll go away then.
