Natasha826 said: hello. so I may be a bit dumb.... can u give me this in a "cup" ratio? having trouble understanding. got a big bag of coir, need to have it broke down into how many cups of coir, vermiculite, and coffee. should I use coffee grounds that were used? if so, should I dry them out first? how much? gonna use a big cooler, camping size cooler. not sure how big. and do you recommend soaking the bags that the spawn are in first? they are colonized. don't want to kill them. do I just take them out and spread them on top of substrate once I figure out how much of everything it is? got 3 bags, little bags. they are amazing, all fluffy white. am loving doing this. my first time.
take however much spawn you have and double or triple that amount in substrate, it doesnt have to be exact and you will be fine. mix your spawn and substrate together well and level it out as best you can and let colonize. that easy.
IF you use coffee use spent grounds right after you brewed them, only need a handful to a cup or so. it doesnt do much so I leave it out.
no need to soak the spawn first, your substrate should have all the moisture you need for a flush or 2 b4 needing to rehydrate.

Just to confirm, if I have 900ml jars, I would then do the 4-1 ratio, so per jar, I need 3.8ltrs of coir substrate? Being that the jars are roughly 700ml of spawn, should I calculate that accurately or?

Yea it doesn't need to be all that accurate.

Awesome, gonna give just coir a go this time, have 2 tubs of about 6-7 jars each, 2 different strains where I'm 100% sure they are 100% colonized, no stupid bags this time.

Also, some of ur math doesn't make sence. Could you explain this -- U first say to use 1/6 ratio, and at the end you give a 'pro-tip' to multiply ur coir weight by 5 to get ur water weight, which is a 1/5 ratio.... "1/6 coir by weight 5/6 water by weight 0/6th coffee 0/6 vermiculite 200g coir to 1000g(1L) water (200g coir/1200g total=1/6th coir 1000g/1200g=5/6th water) 400g coir to 2000g(2L) water 800g coir to 4000g(4L) water PROtip: multiply your coir weight by 5 to get your water weight. use the metric system and your water weight is your water volume" So, are you saying that if we're using more than 200 g of coir we should use 1/5 ratio? Also, what's this 0/6 verm business?

One part coir plus 5 parts water = 6. That's just how ratios work man.
650 coir Plus 650*5 water (3250) = 3850 total weight.
650/3850 is 1/6th 3250/3850 is 5/6ths
What doesn't make sense?

Exactly. I just used some prepped coir that was in a 5 gal bucket for 3 weeks+ (with the lid on),and when I gave it a squeeze it was at field capacity, just how I left it.

Btw this is a 50/50 coir/verm bulk with wheat berries spawn. I pasteurized using bods thermos tek.

you use the same amount of verm as you do coir?
I see people say 50/50 alot but they are referring to damion5050 coir tek this one is based off of. there is nothing 50/50 about these teks.
so which is it, tek name 5050 or actual ratio of coir/verm?

It is about 35% coir / 35% verm and 30% Spawn
