Can you elaborate a little on that...
You just put water in the bottom and it soaks it up? Have any tricks for dunking?
I'm assuming the water added during the harvest (to float) gets the substrate pretty hydrated again, no?

Adding water is easy. Many ways to do it. Like it's so easy asking for pointers is over thinking it.

Of course, water added to float during a harvest is considered a dunk for a bulk sub

- Fill containers with regular tap water.
- Be sure to take your tub to your bathroom or garden.
- Cold water is ok.
- Be gentle when pouring water
There really isn't much to say, It's simple common sense.

Dump it out. Make a siphon, poke a hole in the bottom and tape it up later

I followed this tek to make my substrate, and used 4 quarts water, 650 grams coir, 2 quarts vermiculite, 1 cup gypsum.
Many people in the past told me this looked perfect and to not add anymore water, but after using it i ran into a few problems and some people have said my sub looked dry. My shoeboxes never had any natural beads of moisture and required regular misting (2-3 times a day).
How does this look to you? Should i try out another half quart or quart of water or something or will that be way too much?

Not sure why the coir is not simply pressure cooked?

With respect to retaining boiling water in a plastic container, is there not a concern plasticizers may leech into the substrate?

Go ahead and waste your time and effort doing that. I would much rather spend 3 minutes boiling water and call it a day

I'm 0% concerned.

If I did my bucket tek a week ago and let it sit in the insulated cooler, is it still usable? Or should I chuck it? I was thinking of maybe adding a quart of boiling water to give it a little moisture. Is it important to add your grains as soon as possible? Thanks in advance.

Looks decent
Sometimes coir can have a hot bleach smell. I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm new to cultivating can this type of substrate be used in a shoe box size chamber? I have four BRF half quarts close to birthing time. I thought that I would get more yield if I did the shoe box method instead of covering the cakes in verm and keeping the whole. Any tips would be appreciated.

Yes, it works amazingly well. I did a number of experiments, using one pint of spawn, and others using two +. I found the ones that I used at least 3 half pints in did well, preferably you'd use four in each shoebox. So that would be two pints or more you'd want to use in a coir shoebox. It was best at a 1:1 ratio of coir/spawn.
When you combine these cakes with coir, youll want a cheese grater to grate your cakes up with so that it mixes well with the coir/verm.
