How many quarts of spawn to use for the amount of material?

Kinda personal preference.
I usually use around 7-10 quarts per brick of coir but my quart jars are a little light on wbs too.

I used the search function and found the ratio of spawn to substrate, 1:1 or 1:4, so 2 quarts of spawn can be combined with 8 quarts of sub
Though however later I found Bod uses 4-5 quarts per brick of coir
which is a ratio of 4:1 aprox...
So is it because he's growing a different species? (or less is more and still works) And does it matter what the spawn is grown on, say verm or grain affect it and how much?
For my grow, I am thinking of using 1 quart per brick, or just a bit over half a brick. if that's ok
Thanks

lol I am a bit more confused now
since the coir expands, does that change how much a quart of coir is?
Lik if I use a quart (1000 grams) of (DRY) coir, with water the total substrate is aprox. 8 quarts?
I see, you can use either 1 quart of spawn with 4 quarts of substrate or 4 quarts of spawn with 4 quarts of sub
(Some guy misquoted Bod saying "1:4-1:1 is good for cubes So 3q spawn to 3-12q substrate"
and put it backwards "a 4:1-1:1 ratio of sub to spawn..."
causing my confusion )

I don't think he mis-quoted Bod, that sounds right. He just worded it strange, but he's saying 3 qt spawn to 3-12 (1:1-1:4) qt sub. You can play with the amount of sub. 3-3, 3-6, 3-9, 3-12.
A dry brick of coir (normally weighs ~650g), hydrated to field capacity (with ~4qts of water) will get you about 8qts of coir. Sometimes I get 9 or 10
Now you can experiment with ratios to see what's really working for you. I prefer 1:1. So I can do 4qts of that coir, to 4"qts" of spawn, mix in a tub and I'm done.
No one is ever talking about dry sub when referring to ratios—at least when it comes to coir, verm, etc.

It is a simple method to make a good substrate. I recommend it often to new cultivator for their first bulk grow. Nice write up, wouldn't change a thing, except perhaps spell the title right.

Elementary el·e·men·ta·ry ˌeləˈment(ə)rē/Submit adjective relating to the most rudimentary aspects of a subject. That means we're humnan. I love me some grammar nazis myself.
If it hadn't been for one of them (a famous one) I'd never have thought there was a difference between "you're getting old and crankey" and "you're growing old and crankey", which is correct.

You can't get old. Its not a physical thing you can pick up and it's not a disease you contract. It's just something that happens. But every English speaker would know what you're saying, and most wouldn't even think it sounds wrong. Doesn't even sound that wrong to me until you give the correction.
Replace old with pizza and it becomes clear. Im getting pizza Im growing pizza

This tek is straight cash homie.
One thing I haven't seen addressed yet - After the first flush, are you doing anything to force moisture back into the substrate i.e. dunking? - or are you just letting it ride with the occasional misting?

Yes i add water for the second flush. Mist, bottom water, dunk etc... Judgement call based on how it feels
