if you go over field capacity with straight coir it will get muddy, thats why I put verm in all my substrates, more water reserves will put out more flushes if you are into multiple flushes.

where does one pick up a 5 gallon water dispenser locally
most of the these supplies have come as common sense to me
a 5 gallon dispenser not so much
might just snag one from the local college sporting room lol

This volume, is it the grated volume of spawn? Or is it the volume of spawn that has been colonised before we grate it? Cause I’m guessing that a grated spawn cake would increase in volume?
And the ‘safest’ ratio of spawn to coir is around 1:1? Or is it kind of a ‘finger in the wind’ thing?
Edit: really appreciate the TEK btw! Thanks for taking the time!

When I spawn brf cakes I calculate before grating them.I use a ratio of 1:2 when spawning to bulk, however, some will say that grating the cake will fluff up and increase the volume of it.But they use a spawn ratio of 1:1,which in reality is my ratio calculated after the grating of the cakes.

Fyi... Zoo med coco fibre substrate not working for me with this tek. Clean spawn from agar and the mycelium just doesnt seem to want to grow on it. Been colinizing for 2 weeks. And it has completely stalled. Any one else have this issue?
Im taking about this stuff. https://www.petsmart.ca/reptile/substrate-and-bedding/zoo-medandtrade-eco-earthandtrade-expandable-reptile-substrate-value-pack-15006.html

How would it be if the only Coir i can get it's already hydrated? They sell it to prepare pot substrate, so in addittion it comes with humus(earthworm humus, it's like their poo). Would that be a problem ? Enlight me guys

I made my coir today but realized afterwards that there was a tiny section on one of my bags that wasn't colonized completely. Can I let my substrate just sit in the cooler for a couple days for the bag to finish? Seems like the main problem is it's going to be a pain in the ass to break up again..
Also -- Thanks for all the TEKs bod. You make growing shrooms look easy, and have inspired me to buy a PC, SAB, and agar so that I can do my own grain jars rather than buy bags for my second grow.

I'm pretty sure cocopeat is just a less-used name for coco coir. I saw some at my garden store and it looked like the exact same stuff.
