Daily fasting for better health * 1
    #24074921 - 02/08/17 02:49 PM (3 months, 14 days ago)

I started doing this daily fasting regime where I don't eat for 16 hours every day. So each day, the last time I eat is around 12am every day, and then I don't eat a single thing until 4pm. I drink water and about 5 cups black coffee during the fast. I've been doing this for a couple months consistently and I feel pretty great. My  mental clarity is like crystal clear every day and I never feel sluggish. I can smoke a lot of weed too without any lethargy.

My back / spine is better than its ever been, and I'm even pretty ripped and I don't even try. I do about 40 pull ups a day just randomly at my conveniece.
:flexin:

I find that if I break this habit and eat before 4pm I become more prone to lethargy.

My weight is good and consistent 145 (+ - 1) at 6 feet tall.

At 4pm I eat mostly animal / fish protiens, fats from nuts and avocados, and vegetables, tomatos, spinach, and absolute minimal carbs. Over doing carbs makes me tired.

Just wanted to share, been doing this for maybe 3 months and i feel fucking great, I'm the strongest and most energized and mentally clear than I've ever been in my life.

Even my flow of speech is better than ita ever been and I don't feel awkwardness anymore which is awesome.

I think the secret here is that during the 16 hours, my body is probably healing minor daily damage, and flushing out the lymph nodes and just overall becoming a cleaner running machine. Like an engine that is well oiled and taken care off.

Link
Could not find it on youtube anymore.

BBC documentary talking about how intermittent fasting is beneficial to health,
don't remember the specifics off hand, but part of the video talks regenerating cells or something
uhhhh....something to do with cells decaying faster when certain proteins are taken in?

Going to rewatch it now actually.  Thanks for posting this.

It sounds like you're doing great but just to let you know anything other than water will start the metabolism process.
As soon as you drink coffee your liver starts making stuff to break it down.
It probably doesn't have that big of an effect just letting you know.

Yea man fasting is great when done right Ime. Everything takes energy, when u eat ure using up energy, cuz the food has to be processed and that takes quiet a bit of energy to accomplish, so naturally when u limit it, and even tune it up a bit, u are able to use the energy more efficiently..

Dude man, u really want to boost ur fasting, lose the coffee all together, switch to veggie and fruit juices instead, I personally like carrot juice..

Got through it,
it talks about how when we eat regularly our body keeps producing growth hormones,
which causes cells to divide,
and restricting overall calorie intake promotes health (obviously).
But while fasting the cells go into a sort of 'repair' mode
as a preservation mechanism.
It talks about how occasional hunger generates new brain cells,
presumably as an evolutionary device to remember where to find food.
My old roommate once speculated that preservation is something the body does,
because when we were hunter gathers we did not eat regularly.

But the calorie restriction is the important part,
as they talk about how it is feasible to adopt a fasting program
of restricted calories (a single small meal) every other day,
then whatever the individual wants to eat on feed days.

Have tried various fasting routines,
the weekend restricted calorie intake works pretty solidly in my experience.

so you only eat from 4pm to 12am?

I eat breakfast at 9 am by 11am I'm fuckin starvin,
i eat lunch at 1 and by 2.30 I want to go right the fuck home
so then I eat again at six pm and sometimes 9pm too

if I work out i definitely eat at 9pm

you only need to go 12 on 12 hours off with digestion i feel because by that 12th hour the next day you'll wake up to eat lol

yes.

i think your body needs to adjust to it. i know that when i eat tons of food all day from morning to night, the next day i am definitely really hungry and want to repeat eating a shit load all day every day and so on.

but after fasting for 16 hours a day every day, my body has adjusted to it. So when i wake up im not thinking about food at all, and it lasts until 4pm when i finally eat

that's cool and all but you really shouldn't eat 3 hours before bed, during that time your brain has to concentrate on digestion

i think you should eat food from 12-8pm instead

maybe, ive heard eating before bed is bad, and ive also heard it is good. The main thing is; as long as i feel good overall, inside and out, things must be working well for me. though i forgot to mention i go sleep around 2 - 3 AM every night

I tried a fasting protocol. Fasting is very powerful stuff. I did an 8 hour fast. a 4 hour fast. and I tried just not eating for 2 days straight (still drinking water)

But I no longer keep up with it. I eat 2500-3000 cals a day to keep up my workout regime. But when I wasn't lifting heavy a few times a week, fasting did wonders for mental clarity

My opinion/experience; fasting is better for losing weight, spiritual growth, mental clarity. spreading out calories is better for people like me who need a heavier overall calorie intake and do more physically exhausting stuff

I was thinking back in high school they told us 3 meals with light snacking in between.

If you have low blood sugar or you aren't eating the right balance of food it's best to cover fast periods with a light snack and maybe gatoraid or something but you still need meat and veggies at the end of the day.

Fruits..

I've been intermittent fasting daily for over a year and half while building muscle and increasing strength.

I've detailed it fairly thoroughly a few times on here.

I eat 2800-3500 calories a day. (Normal days and workout days vary)

My workout regiment is pretty intense.  And my work schedule is erratic shift work, constantly switching from days to nights (12 hour shifts).

My eating window is 12pm to 8pm.

Based on my personal research and experience, a 16/8 (16 hour fast and 8 hour eating window) is ideal for athletes.

Things to note:

- You cannot consume "fruit juice" on a fast.  Anything with calories effectively ends the benefit of fasting.

-the most beneficial part of the fast is from the 12 hour and onward.

-breakfast being important is one of the biggest myths still perpetuated to this day.

A very valuable introduction to this can be found at:

Get your weight up son, because damn, wouldn't take much more than a breeze to blow you over.

I feel the same way though, I usually don't eat for 12-16 hours everyday, and I feel much better doing things this way, and have many of the same health benefits you have listed trees.

I can think better, move better, everything better.

I also take some brain vitamins (fish oil), so I reckon I get a few cals from that, but that's not enough to matter.  In the past if I ate breakfast I would crash out quick, was told this might have something to do with hypoglycemia, but I really don't know because I haven't researched it at all.

I'm the complete oppisite of OP. I eat like 6 times per day. Lately I've gained a few pounds because for some reason, I decided to buy candy

A normal day for me is eggs and toast. ceasarc salad, pasta, guac and chips, steak/salmon/chicken. Occasionally a soup on top of that.

I'm a very energetic person though, fast metabolism. I burn it all...
