It might relieve you to know, in a sort of "misery loves company" way, that I once got chewed out for not realizing that sterility in mycological work is significantly more strict than hospital work, indeed even surgical work. Hell, operating rooms are open-air

True that. A plate of agar doesn't have an immune system to launch wbcs to take out the unwanted. I just found it funny I was paying more attention to sterile work in the cult than something I get paid to do for a living.
On a side note, the hospital is a gold mine for all kinds of different myco supplies.

Which is fucked up because I have friends that wear tye dye shirts for no reason

No?

I didn't wear gloves on my last agar pour. first time with 4 section dishes too......
and I didn't get a single contam lol. I've got a video of the whole session (I always film myself) but it's too big to upload (and I was a little sloppy anyway).

Kk this is the only place I feel safe about admitting this but... I never wear gloves. I never shower before. Fuck I rarely wash my hands before doing SAB work.
Knock on fucking wood but I haven't been given any reason to take extra precautions.
Mind you it all depends on what I'm doing. I'll scrub down before nocking up grains. But doing transfers? Nobody got time for thaaat.

Do you film yourself to critique yourself on your technique?

I'm sorry to be 'that guy', but I totally read into this the wrong way. First thing that came to mind was that scene in the movie American Psycho. Lmao I need to start filming myself to analyze my technique and improve performance, both in sterile procedure and other hobbies...

Making syringes and prints in open air isn't the end of the world. I have done it with "success" If the extent of the definition of your success would be a few fruits from bacterial BRF cakes and no trich
Doing agar in open air and making syringes in open air is like comparing apples to oranges.
Edit Please excuse me I've had a few drinks and am just making conversation. Not attacking your confession in any way

That's exactly what I do. I have a nice dslr so I look for excuses to use it. Now that I have a digital microscope.....you'll see some more of that in the future
I also don't mean to come across as someone that is sloppy and careless but I've come a long way with my agar work and have found what does and doesn't work for me. I definitely wash my hands though first at least lol.

Sorry for multiple post but I feel rude for not responding to people.
You got that same one aneres(?) has if I remember right?
I didn't think so there is always room for improvement even what we think is best could still possibly be better

The Internet is a weird place sometimes. Anything anybody says is subject to be taken in any possibly way. I'm sure there are pleanty of people who think I'm a dick head and have written proof of me being a dickhead, all whilst me not actually being a dick head. .. I hope

No worrys , thers nothing to excuse , i do it in a 3 x 8 spare bathroom, im super ocd about cleaning , every sufrace gets wiped down with bleach n soap roof to floor, then a walmart hepa ran for a hour then every thing gets turned off for a hour to settle the air before i work , always shower n put on a clean lab coat n mask before workin to. The defanition of success is more like 1 out of 100 cakes will get bacteria n ill get a pound dry from from 60 cakes in a 110 qt sgfc in 2 flushes . the cakes will fruit for 2 months without contaming, i always just have to toss them to replace with new ones . ya id never do agar open air always use my sab , and i wouldnt recomend doing it this way but it works for me so havnt changed it.
Ya its kinda hard to take context from a forum, i think if someone gets butthurt from a post it says more about the reader then the writer

I also film SAB work sometimes when I'm not feeling too insecure (or too lazy, hah), and usually end up discarding all the footage for either being boring/irrelevant (I feel like it's shit everyone's seen before) or being too nit-picky and worried that it'll just get slammed cuz if I can see errors in it then holy hell are the people with real expertise gonna see 'em, rite. That said, I did manage to make this gif which I trot out whenever it comes up, tho it was done with a 5+ year old android phone camera and not the digital microscope:

I think I can admit I just really like being told "hey great pic, good job!" and that's why I film it and bother compiling & editing it. As it is, I've already gotten more praise than I deserve cuz I've only yet officially done one grow and that was done by thxgiving lol. Hey here's a cheezy amateur confession - I hope to someday deserve the praise I've gotten so far and can come back atcha folks with even way way better pix! (disclaimer: I know less about photography than I now know about mycology so any appearances of technical artistic ability are entirely coincidental)
Also, I've definitely been glancing sheepishly at the idea of no gloves, that shit is way expensive; I mean I'm sure I could find them cheaper in bulk but i've been just getting them at the dollar store and its like 10/$1 for latex and 8/$1 for nitrile and man over a dime a piece is way more expensive than scalpel blades each
