Joshua, I checked out that post, I've come the the conclusion, that I will make 2 casings, one with whole cakes, and one with completely crumbled cakes. The only thing is, one it Thai Koh Samui, and the other is EQ. I think I will use the Thai Koh Samui in the crumbled casing, and the EQ in the whole cake casing. I would like to do it both with the same strain, but it's too late, I have 2 syringes sitting in front of me already. The casings will both be sitting next to each other in the same terrarium, and I'll try and keep a grow log.

PS- It's my first grow.

You could always make a half/half casing of each strain. One container with half crumbled and half cased of one strain.

I used to be a sorry ass myself, and still am in some respects. I just hope you all can get at least just a bit of the experience that I get from mushrooms....very magical :cool:

i agree totally, the trips are definetely not just "getting really high" every one is a defferent experience and it really changes my outlook on life and nature especially when done on hikes.

Good idea, I think that's exactly what I will do, any reason why this would mess things up, I'll try to make both sides of the half/half casings pretty equal and leveled off.

what kind of alcohol/peroxide do you use?
can you put multiple aluminum tins in the same terrarium?
how do you sterilize the casing mix?

what kind of alcohol/peroxide do you use?

I use a 35% soultion of isopropyl alcohol and a 1.5% solution of the peroxide. Most grocery stores will carry both products. I get 70% alcohol and dilute it 1:1 with water. I get 3% peroxide and use the same diltuion, 1:1 w/ water.

can you put multiple aluminum tins in the same terrarium?

The more....the merrier. Mushrooms like to run in packs, so the more casings the better. Eventually you may be able to make larger casings, mushrooms like larger casings too.

how do you sterilize the casing mix?

I place the proper mix into quart jars with Tyvek filtered lids. I pour filtered water over the casing mix so the mix is a bit on the wet side. I then microwave the jars for at least 2 x 10 minutes. Sometimes I will pressure cook the jars.

there are many on these boards that know a thing or two about growing mushrooms. it would be impossible to list them all in a single thread!


this is good info, and a very newbie friendly way to begin casings. master this method, and you're on your way to bulk preparations.

note to community: 5 gal paint buckets are your friend.
