Do these dung-loving Panaeolus species also grow on just grain? Or is dung absolutely necessary?

it's best to use dung/straw as a substrate but grain spawn works fine. I've even heard of people successfully growing on straight cased grain

yah they do. cubes are dung loving to. but we grow them on grains and coconut fibers. pans can be grown in the same fashion but require much more attention to the conditions. cubes are extremely forgiving... you can abuse cubes like step children and they still do fine.

"cubes are extremely forgiving... you can abuse cubes like step children and they still do fine." - Yeah I've noticed that by browsing the forums.
Thanks for the responses both of you.

I've never had that happen to me with maz. They usually come out looking very basic. They are pretty but yeah I normally get some basic guys with maz. I have been harvesting rust spore from my Oakridge though! I'll have some of those for trade soon

PE6 tub. Not the best pinset but some fat clusters and big caps. Some of those caps are over 2.5 in across. Highlighter for size comparison

Got a few prints drying right now, so keep a look out in the marketplace for another one of my giveaways!
