I never flipped the lids:popping them.loose was just enough, by the time they reached the lid, they maintain they're own microclimate and I rarely even dubbed... I dubtub SOS tubs early bc the centers fill in better with the increase in evaporation in the area (due to increased air exchange with the gaps created handle to handle on each short side) might be beneficial if your shoebox is uber wet initially

How often did you have to deal with side pinning?

Did you keep the lid snapped on the whole time or loose?

Thanks a lot for the tip, I just made a bunch of shoeboxes and I was literally just wondering how'd they did if I left the lids on at least until pinning.

There were some you can see they grew out from the pictures nicely. I had it in a sterility grey top shoebox and I was waiting on clear top shoeboxes from the mail. When I got the clear top it had already been pinning like pretty well

I sterilized the clear top shoebox and moved the block into it which was a little bigger than the other one but it worked out well because all the side pins grew out nicely as well as the top. I supposed it just had enough nutrition to grow the whole thing out with the side pins. Shortly after moving it into the new tub I dubbed it cuz they started to get too tall. This was actually my first go with shoeboxes. I was always weary about the whole no FAE holes but I have to say if you just follow the tek they WILL be fine. Literally all I did was mist occasionally and the only time I took the top off was once a day to check surface moisture. Sometimes didn’t mist at all if it looked good.

Man that’s a surprising pinset for such a rough looking surface.

Wow so you can run a shoebox with no holes or anything, lid on until harvest with no fanning misting and it still works? That’s amazing!

The surface looked great until the pin set. I think it’s just bad lighting though

My first shoebox (and second grow) coming in!

I noticed the fuzzy feet today. Have now "dub tubbed" which on these boxes leaves a small gap where the clips are (about 3" long by 1/8" wide). I suspect this might let too much moisture out? They're in a room with an AC and a fan. I can tape most of the hole up if that seems like too much.

There's a shitload of pins that aren't really growing, and the caps appear to be darkening. I guess these will probably abort, if they're black at harvest I'll get them out.

What's going on with that one at the back left, with mycelium growing out of the cap? A few others have white spots, but none with straight up rhizo growth popping out.

New setup, up and running. Loving these 6L much better than the 2s. Automated with fan and ultrasonic on the new Inkbird. Mixture was much nicer than the last, so this should go much quicker than the last time around and hopefully be just as fruitful :mushroom2:

Originated from 6 of these 3lbs Brazilian bags that came from my LC. They took a while to finish, but it's a strong specimen and seems to fight through and flush regardless of it's conditions.

The bits of white on the caps is nothing to worry about, they just do that. I don't see much by way of aborting, but hard to tell from that distance. Looks like good healthy clusters. I would just turn your lid over and leave them be. I don't think you need AC and a fan, i would maybe just keep one or even cut out both. You might be getting too much FAE up high, but have a wetter top layer which might cause that mix of drier tops and wetter pins.

Otherwise it looks like a really good flush, bro :super:

Edit: I just noticed the torn cap and yeah, I think you have a dyer upper climate, but a wet base. I would refrain from any misting and try putting the lid back on it or dubbing, but taping them together with a double layer of MP tape to keep the humidity up in the top. If the humidity balances out you can just leave them til done.

Even a single layer of MP would likely do the trick to bring the humidity upward and away from your casing.

Where is the torn cap? I just spent like 5 minutes scouring the pictures and the box but can't see what you mean.

The AC needs to stay or it'll be ridiculously hot but I can cut the fan. Will try taping up the holes and see how it looks tomorrow. The picture didn't come out super high-rez but there's still plenty of tiny droplets on the surface. I haven't been misting, just the initial spray on the top layer at spawning.

Got lots of black shoe boxes
Is it just a matter of cutting the lid and replacing with cling film

So I am loving these clear liners for the sake of being able to see what's happening in my sub.

Three days and we're already getting some poke through on what is about a 1/2" casing layer = about 4" total depth of 3:5 spawn/sub, so that's much, much better than the last round.

Really digging the RH and FAE this chamber is getting. Holding steady at 93%, but you can tell it's getting air based on the dry spots near the lid and holes.

Hopefully it won't be long before we start to see pins. Gonna do a two hole late fruiting like has been suggested, to max out pinning and then let the setup do the rest once they're all single taped.
