Munch made a tek yesterday for removing sub, floating isn't very useful for side/bottom shrooms so you could use munch's tek or just flip it like this after harvesting the surface.

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/24761383/page/1 This is a link to munches tek.

Has anyone had any luck using the slurry method with this?
Specifically has anyone been able to slurry grains and have them colonize in the box?

People regularly use 1 qt of spawn for a shoebox, so that would be four 1/2 pint cakes. Although PF cakes won't have as much nutrition due to the verm content

Good to know. I might do that or just stick with the sgfc until I start grain jars up. We will see.. I like the yield size of the shoeboxes though!

Its a bit riskier depending on your situation. If you use all your pf cakes for a shoebox or two, and it doesn't work out, then you lose it all. If you just fruit the cakes, you can still lose some cakes but keep the rest. So it just depends on what you have to work with and what you're willing to risk. Good chance it will work out fine, but if you want to be sure you get some mushrooms, then I'd just fruit the cakes. Something like spawning cakes to a sub is more something to do when you have a stash already and you're feeling frisky

Thanks for the input Pixel. I want to start doing grains vs pf tek since I feel confident in it now. What do you recommend after pf tek grain wise? I have a pc and can gather other ingredients. I was thinking either rye berries or wbs next. What do you recommend and do you have links to a good tek for either or?

^^^^WBS is what I use. Other grains are fine also, but I'm just a WBS guy right now
This is how I prep mine, prob the most simple prep possible aside from if you skipped rinsing the WBS:
Quote:
pixelpopper said: I load a bunch of WBS into a strainer and rinse it till the water coming out the bottom runs clear, generally takes less than a minute
Then I load the WBS into a large pot filled with tap water. (Cold water works fine as long as you are sure to PC your WBS very soon after the soak. If you have to wait to PC, be sure to put it in the fridge to prevent sprouting. Alternatively, fill your pot with very hot water for the soak. If its hot enough, it should help kill the seed and prevent sprouting. I have never had a problem with sprouting as long as I PC'd the WBS within a day.)
Then I put a lid on the pot and let sit for 24 hours, or sometimes slightly less.
Load soaked WBS into strainer and let sit for about 15min, giving it a shake every 5 min.
Load jars.
Done.
And this is the WBS I use, very cheap:

I’ll look around for that wbs pixel. Nice tek Mushboy! I’m going to give that one a try once I have some free time. Do you use modified lids for the wbs jars?

Alrighty. Is it okay to message you if I have more questions? Wouldn’t be till I got started of coarse and do more research. I got pf tek down by researching and asking the pros questions.

Grains slurry seems too risky for me.
I made some cornmeal plates i will try slurrying tO grain jars a la eats tek. Im still messing around with getting the moisture content just right. Once i do you can bet your ass ill spawn some shoeboxes.
Cornmeal plates colonize in 5 or 6 days and pf cakes colonize in 2-3 Weeks for the same slurry outcome. If i was on pf tek looking at shoeboxes i would just crumble them up with my hands.

It would just be so much better if I could get grains to colonize in the shoebox. I can cook way more grains in bags than in jars, nearly double the amount will fit in the p.c.
I could colonize in bags, but then I'd still have to break up the grain when i went to put them in the shoeboxes, and thatd equate a loss of energy as they reknit.
