It was originally found in a sandy area in Tampa, FL. I think it's only been found one other time ever in MI.

I'm having trouble keeping the moisture in 1q shoeboxes. I guess it's dry here.
How long do you usually bottom water for?

I was told 2 ounces for 2 hours then dump the left over water. If you use 1 qt maybe use more sub? I thought a deeper sub helped with moisture.

You may be thinking of a mono? I think usually people use 2qt spawn or so for shoebox's.

I think there's a misunderstanding going on. The shoeboxes themselves are 6qt plastic containers. You can use 1 or 2qts of spawn in these easily for good results. In the OP mushboy uses 2qts at a 1:1 ratio. The containers aren't 1qt ea

I did all my shoeboxes 1 quart of spawn and 1 quart of sub for like 2 years. only when mushboy published this thread did I try 2 quarts of spawn. they both work fine. but yes, you need to mist your 1 quart shoebox daily, perhaps twice.

Do you recommend the misting mainly because it is only 1 qt? Would a higher volume box create more moisture?
Also did you notice a big difference in the yield for the first flush switching from 1qt to 2qt?
Maybe its too soon to tell definitively
I like the idea of less spawn and sub, I couldn't stack my tubs like yours because the weight bends the plastic and makes gaps between my sub and the tub. That would be bad, yes?
I think I might try a few batches with your method and cut the total volume in half or so and see how they produce. By then hopefully I will have a clone on grain though which may impact the results compared to my current MS I suppose

Hello guys, pretty new on the growing world, I was looking around and this tek seems to be what approach the most the growkits, don't get me wrong, this tek is like The Godfather of growkits.
I was wondering if this tek was the easiest one for a newbie?. I saw the PF tek + SGFC and liked it, but this one seems to be more familiar with what I use to grow mushies... Yup GROWKITS.. x|
Good vibes,

Yeah, the hardest part is just getting clean spawn; once this is mastered then its pretty simple.

its the same concept. its all the same concept.
colonized substrate placed in a container. exposed to fruiting conditions. 'shoeboxes' are just another way to do it.

there's no easier or whatnot method you make spawn and mix it with substrate. it's dead easy. getting contamination free spawn is the hard part.
agar is easy as jello and writing your name PF tek is as easy as box mac and being patient. bulk growing is as easy as making dinner and being patient.
more steps doesn't mean more difficulty.

I recommend misting because its gonna dry out on you, guaranteed. All shoeboxes need misting. A higher volume box isn't going to create moisture. You have to place the moisture in it. It evaporates out of them and you must replace it, in all FCs. Boxes don't create water.
Yes of course you will get more yields with more spawn. This is a basic principle of growing.
Use some judgement.

Joining new threads in Mush Cult is like colonizing a substrate. Cant believe I missed out on the nutrients in this thread for so long. I'm a slow colonizer I guess.
