There's no need to pressure cook after you pasteurize the coir. From what I understand you're doing more harm than good by sterilizing it.

BUT WHY PC?? or I JUST BUCKET TEK ITS EASIER.. this isnt about that. this is about sterilizing prepared coco coir and verm.
after 30min to 1hr later its all expanded and good to go. you could spawn away. I KNOW!

Evidently, you don't know what pasteurization means.

coir has no microbes.
can you pasteurize a rock? a metal fork? pasteurizing is 155-160f for 1-1.5hrs to keep certain microbes alive.(or whatever)
sorry for being diskish with my earlier post. but please. not here. use the search feature to read all the yak about past coir. IMO pasteurize coco for practice since you cant fuck it up.
but taking the time to 'pasteurize' coco coir for the reasons you would poo/compost/peat is dumb as f and shows you arnt paying attention

Some tubs spawned 16/9 (yup...) are still not quite fully colonised, yet they're equally not contaminated. No metabolites, no yellow patches, no strange mycelium, just super slow growth.
I realised one possible cause: I had lids of the shoeboxes off almost before even 25% colonisation, so they could've lost a shitton of moisture. Should I dunk them for a few hours then drain and see what happens?

Maybe just give it a good mist?

I decided to dunk them and the mycelium which was touching the sides of the shoebox broke away, it'd been gluing the substrate to the sides and hiding the fact it was shrunken and dehydrated as fuck. Added enough water to drown the substrate, flexed the sides of the shoeboxes to allow the water access to everywhere, waited 20 mins, drained water with a 15% loss on return. Room smells very very fresh mushroomy now. If this doesn't work no big deal, it'll be a learning experience.

if you dont work on the surface conditions all the liner will really do is hide the pins. ignorance can be bliss i guess. sure the liner 'clings' to the substrate to prevent a micro climate... but you gotta ask why is the substrate shrinking so much before the 1st flush??
some cultures can guzzle water but if you keep your surface tight and your bulk prep is solid, the tote is the liner.
Not a douche at all...I got lots to learn!

No!
The mycelium had such a strong grip on the cheap, easily flexed plastic, that it had hidden the substrate shrinkage.

I used 3qts of spawn to 300g coir, 1qt verm, handful of gypsum and about 1.5qts water. I split that in half and made 2 shoeboxes out of it.
I just harvested this second one a few minutes ago
